IF At the proper perhny before thy north bound train was due to arrive at Thallman the Thallman call was sounded, but there was no response. After calling for ten minutes alarm was felt at the idlspatcjliers office, which increased as the cal! was con tinued with no response. At the time it was due to arrive at Thallman the call was repeated but with no response and it was kept up for five, ten, twenty and even thirty, minutes. Number 66 was then* Sue at the next station but according to a report from here, had not even been sighted. No amount of calling could get the operator at Thallman to answer until thirty minutes af i r the train was due to have passed that pjdnt. Then there was a stutter ing reply to the call, and the answer came to the chief dispatcher’s in quiry as to what was the matter, “1 was asleep.” It developed that the operator also closed his oilice, got aboard number 66 and went to Savannah. When the operator stepped from the train, which was forty minutes late, he vitas promptly placed under arrest. The charge was "Intended to be held for investigation,” but It was placed on the sheet at the Savannah police head quarters as "held for criminal neg ligence In leaving the telegraph of lice of the Seaboard Air Line at Tb all-man.” - It was thought by the officials here that probably the man was short in some of his accounts, as he also had charge of the depot at Thallman.
