According 10 reports an increase of
lit percent in wages will be asked by
the engineers, while switch engineers
will ask for an increase of 15 per-

will ask that negro firemen lie elimi

Such an incrca-u as the engineers
would ask, however, would cost the

Governor Terrell Will an Ap
propriation of $200,000 in
Message.
In Ills retiring message to ihe gen
eral assembly next June Governov
Terrell will recommend an appropria
tlon of $200,000 for an extension or
annext for the capltol building.
The need of more room is becom
iig an imperative one. The growth
of various departments, the creation
[of others and tlie addition of the
ppcllate court has crowded the build
ug almost to its capacity.
So congested has become the. build
ing and so Imperative the necessity
[tor more, room that a large number
jtif rooms set aside for committee pur
poses during the sessions of tlie gen-
Rial assembly are now occupied.
I When the appellate court, was ere
cted there was a great shifting about
[of officials to make room for the
judges. The pension commissioner
!was moved across the hall and the
state geologist was forced to the
third floor, taking rooms set aside
for committee rooms.
Next fall the state pure food law I
to go into effo t. The work will ibe
under the dlretction of the depart
ment of agriculture and will be done
by State Chemist McCandless, with
the aid of an assistant. So crowded
has become the capitol that the rooms
for making the food analyses will
have to the fitted up In the dark and
I unusually unwholesome basement,
Cow the storeroom for all the varied
overflow from the capitol offices,
j The growth of the state treasury,
the comptroller general's department
land other offices are becoming so
j Teat as to demand more room. Since
he creation of the comt of appeals
hat organization has had no regu
lar court room, being forced to use
the supreme court room in the. after
noons.
Whether the governor's recommen
dation for the appropriation of the
|200,000 contemplates anew wing or
a hlitinn to the present, building or
tie purchase of property somewhere
,n ar the square for a separate buiid
i)g is not known.
For a long time the necessity for
r ore room to care for state affairs
ihas been apparent to the observing.
I has been discussed not only among
tain house officials, but by the think
ing men all over Georgia,

"General C. A. Evans, tendered tho

1 is believed that his refusal was
j based on the fact that his present
v oik is congenial and that he was re
elected last fall for a term of four
years.
| But it is true that Governor Smith
is anxious to have General Evans as
adjutant general in his cabinet. Gen

Unstained public and private life, his
