CAPTAIN J. W. TABBOTT DEAD.
Veteran Pilot Crosses Life's Shore
Line and Anchors in Eternity.
Capt. J. W. Tabbott died at his
nonre in the city yesterday morning
at 4 o'clock after a long illness.
For several months he has been
critically 111 and his death had been
cted for some tipe w
Capt. Tabbott was born il Addl
son, Maine an;! was 74 years*of age.
He had An a resident of Bruns
wick forty-two years, hav
ing located here in 1865 and he was
one of hte first pilots on the Bruns
wick bar after the war, He had al
ways been noted for his honesty and
Integrity of character and has been
one of Brunswick's best citizens dur’
ire his long residence here,
He leaves a wife and seven chil
dren. Mrs. William Anderson, W.
\V., Flu-gene, Guy and Arthur Tabbott
and Misses Annie Belle and Ma y
Tabbott. All of whom were at ills
bedside during his last hours.
The funeral will occur this morn
ing at 10 o’clock from the residence,
Rev. M. C. Austin officiating. Inter
ment will be at Oak Grove cemetery
The family have the sympathy of
their many friends In their bereave
ment.

After a lingering illness covrring

his home on D street yesterday ,ij

For many years Mr. Skipper was
an employe of the Downing barrel
factory as cooper. Some time sin. <
his eyes began to fail him. IP
was treated by skill. <l physiolm:
but to no avail and finally he became
hopelessly blind. The stran was t--o
much for him and his mind gradual
ly weakened under the burden until
he entirely lost control of it. This;
with other complications and the In
firmities told its tale and yesterday
afternoon he passed away.
The funeral will occur from the
residence at 2 o’clo:k this afternoon

Ten Thousand People V/itness the
Opening Day at Benning's Track
in Washington.
Washington, March 25.—The open
leg of Benning's race track today
was probably the most auspicious
one in the history of this great and
well known course.
The opening was advertised far
wide and when the first ract was
called to the ‘‘post” it Is estimated
that fully ten thousand people were
gathered in the grand stand to wit
ness tire day’s work.

good natured and the entire after
