A plan is now on foot to merge at)
the steamboat linos on the Oemulgee
and Altamaha river, and to establish
one big line from Macon to Bruns
wick. President Small, of the Ma
con chamber of commerce, is behind
the move. The following from the

They Leaped From the Win

the Long Fall.
Kansas City, Mo., May B.—Ten peo
ple were killed and a number injured
today in a lire which almost comple
tely destroyed the mail order depart
rnene of the large store of Montgom
ery, Ward & Howe in this city.
The mail order department is lo
cated iu the fourth story of the build*
iug and the Are originated in the rear
of this story. Before the many
clerks realized that the store was
on fire the flames had enveloped al
most the entire floor, and they were
cut off from the elevators. It was
a case of jump from the fourth
story or burn to death, and ten per
sons leaped for their lives, but all
of them were killed in the plunge
to the ground beiow.
Several people on other floors of
he building were also injured in at
empting to make their escape.

Came Down Yesterday From Macon
on a Short Trip.
Supt Bell, of ths division of the
Southern railway, with headquarters
in Macon, came down yesterday and

While here, Supt. Bell visited the
different properties of the Southern
in Brunswick and transacted other
business connected with the road.
He returned to Macon last night.

The improvement work on the
Os!. borne hotel is now being rap
idly pushed and it will not be very
liur-h longer before the hostelry will
be one of the handsomest in this sec
tion of the state.
A large force of painters are now
busy on the building, and most of
the top portion of the building has
been completed.
The work on the new kitchen, din
ing room, etc., is being pushed with
'! possible rapidity, and every effort
s being made to have the house en
•itely completed in time to accommo
date the many summer visitors who
ill soon begin to arrive in the city.
New furniture for the building Is
arriving almost daily, and it will ali
te on hand in time to equip the
rooms when the improvement work is
completed.

THE CRIMINAL DOCKET TODAY.
Only a Tew Civil Cases Tried in the
City Court Yesterday.
The city court will today take up
the criminal docket and will continue
on this branch of work for the re
mainder of the week. There are a
large number of cases on the docket
and it will take some time to dis
pose of them.
Yesterday the court coninued on
the civil docket, disposing of two or
three small cases.

TO LIVERPOOL IN JULY LAST,
JOINED HER HUSBAND AGAIN
YESTERDAY.
Among the passengers returning to ‘
Brunswick on the Mallory steamer
yesterday morning was Mrs. K. F.
Willis, wife of the aged citizen whom
she deserted last July, going to Liver
pool. The News at the time pub
lished the facts connected with the
departure of Mrs. Willis. She lived
with her aged husband here for many
oars and was engaged in dress
making. Without a word of notified
lon, and after selling nearly every
■rticle contained in their home, the
rife left Brunswick and for several
lays the husband was greatly wor
••ied as to the whereabouts of his
/ifo. it was finally learned that she
ad gone to Liverpool, where she re
ded many years ago.
Since that time Mr. Willis has been

be county jail but recovered and is
low enjoying very good health.
He was informed yesterday that
his wife had returned to the city
Mr. Willis hastened to locate her and

was found at the residence of Mrs.

mond streets where she spent tlie
night. She stated that she did not
intend to desert her husband, but
merely went home on a visit.

diocese of Georgia, which will be held
in Savannah. May 15, 16 and 17, will
probably be largely attended owing to
the fact that some action will prob
ably be taken upon the proposed div

sions. The convention will be open

Wood, formerly of this city, now of
New York, has been sold to Mrs. P.
Keller and Mrs. D. L. Keller.
It, is understood that the amount
paid for the home was $5,000. It is
one of the best located residences in
the city.
