A Heavy Rain.
Brunswick was visited by one of
the heaviest rains of the season yes
terday afternoon. It came down in
torrents.

The Brunswick lodge of Elks will
hold their regular weekly meeting
tonight and will dispose of a number
of routine matters.

The Glynn aerie of Eagles®* held
their regular weekly meeting in their
hall last night. Several new mem
ber were initiated.
Coast Line Pay Car.
The pay train of the Atlantic Coast
Line was in the city yesterday and
gladdened the hearts of the many
employees of the system In the city.

The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
N. H. Ballard, who has been quite ill
for several days, was reported to be
critically ill last night. Their many
fronds hope that there will be a
change for the better in her condition
today.
SOUTHERN EXPRESS CO.,
MAKES TAX RETURNS
Protesting against the method ad
opted by the state for assessing its
property for taxation, the Southern
Express Company, through Attorney
Robert C. Alston, has returned its
property for taxation to the comptrol
ler general. The return is incom
plete and General Wright will ask
the company for additional details.
The tangible property of the com
pany Is valued at $ 158,537; the fran
chise Is held to be worth $408,714,
certain intangible property at Augus
ta is returned for $200,00*
No statement of the earnings of the
company Is shown.

CIGAR FACTORY COMES SOON.
Industry Will be in Operation Here
in a Short Time.
Within the course of probably two
Santa Clara Cigar factory,
now located at Jesup, will be running I
on full time in Brunswick.
The contract between the owners
of the factory and the officers of the
board of trade has been signed and
everything is about in readiness for j
the coming of the new industry, which |
will be one of the largest in the city. !
The owners of the ractory, it Is
understood, want to have the plant
i:i operation here within the nex
two weeks.
