campaign speeches in the middle west

Governor Smith is especially popu
lar in the northwest, havin'., mad

Governor Smith rec ived Monday
morning a telegram from John H. At
wood, one of the democratic mana
gers, asking him to stump Maine in
the interest of the democratic state
ticket, hut he was obliged to decline
owing to the extra s-essl n of the leg
islature.

To Pay the County Poller, and to
Provide for Necessary Sf.nitation.

Governor of Georgia.

WHEREAS, the general assembly, :
at its session in 1908, proposed an
amendment to the constituticn of tills ,
state, as set forth in an act approved !
August 17, 1908, to wit;,
* The following amendment to j
the constitution of the state of
. Georgia is hereby proposed by the
house of representatives of the
general assembly cf said state
| That article seven (7) section
| six (6) of the constitution of said
' state he amended as follows, to
wit:
I By adding to paragraph two
(2) of said section and article the
following words, to-wit: To pay
the county police, and to provide
for necessary sanitation.
Now, therefore 1, Hoke Smith, gov
ernor of said State, do issue thlfi my
proclamation hereby declaring that
the foregoing proposed amendment to
the constitution is submitted for rati
fication or rejection to the voters of
the state, qualified to vote for mem
hers of the general assembly, at the
general election to be held on Tues
day, November 3rd, 1908.
