At Request of Union.
Governor Hardwick appointed the
committee of three at the request of
the machinists union of Atlanta. At
their suggestion he named one mem
ber, nominated by the union, named
one member nominated by the At
lanta, Birmingham and Atlantic Rail
way, and named one neutral not nom-|
in 3 ted by either. Mr. Turner was
nominated by the machinists, Mr.
Hudson was nominated by the rail
road and Mr. Candler was the neutral.
The majority report shows that the
committee inspected thoroughly the
scene of the wreck, heard testimony
for two days, and examined pieces of
the base of the rail, pieces of the pilot
of the engine, and witnessed a pres
sure test to determine whether the
wheel w'as loose on the pony truck-.
The report expressed the opinion that
the explosive consisted of potassium
chlorate and sugar.
