GANS AND FLOWERS
MAY MEET HERE
Could Secure Proper Guarantee*
It is Thought, If Promoter
Would Go to Right Crowd In
stead of Few Who Don’t Dig
Deep.
It is likely that a fight between ne
gro champions will be pulled off here
on Thanksgiving Day provided the
guarantee it SI,OOO can be raised.
The be between Joe Gans,
middlewkeight colored champion, and .
Tiger Flowers, who was defeated in j
his effort to wrest these honors from
Gans in Atlanta some weeks ago.
An effort is being made by a num
ber of fight promoters to make the
guarantee cf the amount asked, SIOOO,
and if this is done the fight will be
pulled off here, as stated, on Thanks
giving Day.
Flowers has met many game scrap
pers here but has always won out.
In Atlanta he went up against Gans
and lost, but those' who have follow
ed the ring say he is the better man
but lacked proper training. In the
meantime sport fans are arranging to
get the SIOOO pledged so as the fight
ers can begin training for the big
event.
Of course if the guarantee is rais
ed there will be a preliminary bout
or two on tbe program and there
will be a fistic carnival good apd
strong, and with additional scrappers
to entertain the sports there is little
doubt but that the amount of guaran
tee could be secured, provided, how
ever, the promoter, Bailey, would go
to the right crowd.
