“We have found out why you people
get things,” said a member of the
party, meaning, of course, the work
of the club of which he happened" to

that Darien should have such an or
ganization.

Smith made an interesting and optir
mistic talk and said the committee
hoped to wind up stock sales by the
next meeting date.
Chairman Constant Miller, of the
board of county commissioners, made
an interesting address with good
roads as the foremost feature. Mr.
Miller told of his recent visit to points
in Florida and made the assemblage
understand what great benefits were

The members of the Darien party
spent the entire day in the city and

/*>■ Associated Press'.t f
- Sept. 23. —Develop-
ment 'of a great system of state own
ed docks and wharves was
a* length and with keen interest by
the members of the port and dock
commission at a meeting held today
in Governor Hardwick’s office.
It was pointed out that the state
of Louisiana expended $35,000,000 for
docks and wharves at New Orleans,
and developed that port from a secon
dary position to one of the great ports
of the world, the principal cutlet for
the whole Mississippi Valley and the
principal inlet of commerce from
South America and Central America
and Mexico.
The statement was made that the
earnings of the New Orleans dotjks
have more than paid the interest and
sinking fund on the bonds with which
they were built.
Members of 'the commission ex
presed the opinion that Georgia can
and ought to develop a similar sys
tem of docks and w'harves at Savan
nah,! Brunswick or St. Mary’s.
