STRONG ADVOCATE
.SINGLE SESSION
Another Communication Touch
ing Present System From
One Who Signs Herself “All
Wrought Up,” and is Inter
esting to Parents Generally.
From a number of communications
on the subject of double sessions of
the schools The News prints the fol
lowing:
“Editor, News: Much has ‘.been
said and written on the mooted ques
tion of single or double sessions of
our schools. For my part, I am ab
solutely committed to the advisabili
ty of the present system being discon
tinued for good and all. Primarily,
it was an experiment, and after sev
eral years of trial, it is conceded a
failure, from a number of standpoints,
in the opinion of hundreds of patrons.
“ft works a particular hardship up
on. the children who live too far from
school to go heme at the noon hour,
in that they have to arise so early
that in most cases, very little if any,
breakfast is eaten and a little cold
lunch is taken to school, meaning
that really, only one full meal, supper,
is eaten per day. For those who go
home at noon ? they rush in and hur
riedly eat dinner, if they are not too
hot and tired to do so, and rush back
to school in the hottest part of the
day. Of course the hot weather will
not last long but walking through
rain and cold four tirqes every day is
equally as trying. Then the entire
afternoon in schiil with time for noth
ing else!
And the teachers phould also he
considered. Naturally they are often
detained, even later than the pupils,
which means that they are in a sort
of bondage, with absolutely no time to
themselves, except at night when
they might he able to snatch a few
seconds after correcting and looking
over papers, mending and looking af
ter their wardrobes, shampooing their
hair, writing letters, and other duties
too numerous to mention. I am sure
were they permitted to fepeak their
mind in the Matter, a majority would
favor the old hours.
"ALL WROUGHT UP."
RAIN IS PREDICTED WITH NO
CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE
The weatehr forecast from Wash
ington last night said it would likely
rain within the next tw- my-four
hous with no change in temperature.
It is a little hard to understand how
rain can come and not make it a
bit cooler. But is what thev
so id anyway. :

One of the prettiest games of base

After playing until darkness stop

Saturday for final supremacy. All the
