HUNDREDS OUT OF
WORK 111 IKE NORTH
Conditions in Brunswick and
This Entire Section Great
Deal Better Than in North
and East. —Unemployment is
Serious Situation.
h. H. Haym, of A. Kaiser & Bro..
who has the [past two
weeks in New York and the section
surrounding it, talks interestingly of
conditions there as compared with
those in this city and section. The
unemployed, states Mr. Haym. is a
serious question in all the larger cit
ies and many of the smaller. In New
York city it is probably of a more ser-
ious nature than Uwg ; nutH places, yet
these are bad enotigh. In front of the
employment agencie}* thousands gath
er, day by day, hunting for any kind
of work but there is none for them,
says Mr. Haym.
When questioned as to places about
the size and population of Brunswick,
Mr. Haym says he took unusual care
to observe conditions in these and
that there is no comparison. It is
true, he said, that it is better in the
smaller places, but, when compared
to Brunswick, it was simply a matter
out of the question. “It maybe,’ said
Mt. Haym, “that we have some peo
ple out of work but to no great extent,
while the cities of the size of this in
the north and east have thousands
loafing the streets, anxious to work
but none to be found.”
Mr. Haym expressed the opinion
that conditions would become easier
and are right on the way at present.
He talked to many of the business
men about affairs of a future nature
and all of these were optimistic and
he shares their opinion/
Mr. Haym was accompanied on his
return by Mrs. Haym and her many
friends will be pleased to know that
she has greatly improved in health.
Harry Haym, as has been reported in
these columns, has entered Princeton
University.
