Yesterday ws rather cool and this
caused many country people to come
in on their trading “tours,” and as a
result the average merchant had gcod
sales. The payrolls in the city were
also unusually heavy last night and

streets and stores*

JURORS YESTERDAY.
Jurors who served at the recent ses
sion of the city court were “paid off”
yesterday, that is, these who went to
the court house got their scrip. Clerk

warrants were sworn out by a party
who had been robbed and Mr. Huff
succeeded in locating the stolen goods

Freeman VYili Bates, a young
negro, in the act nf bootlegging but
pot until he had sold and received pay
for a pint of whiskey and he is now
behind the bars. The negro caught
a cusfyomef out by the cemetery yes
terday afternoon. The two officers
chanced to see the mau hand Bates
money and, probably by instinct, knew
what it was for. The negro left and
returned shortly afterwards handing
thr man a pint Of smoke and receiv
ing the change for same. The officers
hud secreted themselves and saw the
whole transaction, fn other words,
