October 12 will be Columbus Day
throughout the length and breadth of
all this land and the occasion will be
appropriately observed in Brunswick.
It is the date of the discovery of this
grand and glorious country by Chris
topher Columbus and patariotism wih
pervade the very air.
The day will be observed in Bruns
wick by a program which will be in
keeping with the occasion. Hon. John
T. Vocelle, of St. Mary’s, Camden
county, will be the orator of the day
and his subject will be, “American
ism.” The exercises will be held in
the Knights of Columbus hall, located
near Hanover Park and besides the
address of this giffed orator, there
will be other interesting features.
On this day, which marks the 429th
anniversary of the discovery of Amer
ica by Christopher Columbus, pro
grams will be arranged in all the pub
lic and many of the private schools In
Brunswick and Glynn county and his
torical € xercises will be held in many
of these.
WOMEN MUST PAY POLL TAX
BEGINNING JANUARY FIRST.

going the rounds of the press as to

the matter settled, Tax Collector J. A.
Jones, of Ware oounty, wrote Comp*
trailer General Wright and his reply
states that all qualified feminity must
come across just as the men folks do.
The letter from the comptroller
general says:
‘ Replying to yours of the 4th in

posing poll tax on women does not go
into effect until January Ist, 1022.”

Despite the fact that the total at
tendance at the Southeastern Fair,
Atlanta, in 1920 was 205,000, the larg
est crowd that ever passed through
the turnstiles during the ten days, the
great institution bids fair to outdo all
past achievements in the way of at
tendance, attractions and exhibits.
Next Thursday the big gates at
Lakewood will swing wide in response
to a signal from Mayor Key, who will
officially open the exposition grounds
on the first day, which is Atlanta Day.
Then for elevent big days the great
fair will run in full swing.
Representative exhibits from every
1 fair in the east and west will gather
j at the Atlanta Fair and the National
! Hog and Cattle Show, one of the few
really big livestock shows in the coun-|
try will represent the greatest collec
tion of. swine, cattle ,nd sheep that
the south has ever seen. The Inter
, national Club Judging Contest, one of
the principal educational features of
the fair wilL, bring representatives
from sixteen of the United States.
This will be the greatest,Club gather
ing ever held in the history of Ameri
ca. and the Southeastern Fair claims
th e distinction of being the only fair
in the world to stage such a feature.
Other boys and girls clubs will com-
I pete in contests in canning, cooking,
sewing, farming, poultry raising and
almost every branch of modern farm
ing. The boyß fair school represents
another big educational feature of the.
Fair in which boys from various parts I

The poultry will be one of the
biggest ever held in Atlanta, with
new equipment whlcli the Association
has installed in the first floor of the
