The Parent-Teacher Association
yesterday afternoon held a most en
thusiastic meeting at Purvis school
for the purpose of reorganizing the
association. (Officers for the Ensuing
year were elected, as follows: Pres
ident, Mrs. G. V. Cate; v&h presi
dent, Mrs. Sam Brown; yfyreWy,
Miss Saunders; treasurer, Mrs. T. B.
Newman,
Interesting and instructive talks
were made by Mrs. Cahill, city nurse;
Miss Moore, supervisor of elementary
grades, and Supt. Dryden.
The teachers and pupils are very
grateful to the P. T. A. for the pic
tures, the books, the Victrola records
and the football which were so gra
ciously given at this meeting.
The Parent-Teacher bids fair to be
one of the most beneficial organiza
tions of the city. A milk depot where
the children might have a glass ;cf
milk with their lunch was discussed.
This question is now in the hands of
a committee, who yirill make all defi
nite plans. The following resolution
was submitted and unanimously
adopted: Resolved, Purvis Parent-
Teacher Association offer their ser
vices to the superintendent of schools
and asks that he call on them when
ever he feels they can be of assis
tance.
The next regular meeting will be
held on the second Thursday in No
vember.

was racing to port today In an effort
to get In ahead of the French Liner
Paris, with Marshal Foch on board,

Augusta, Oct. 27. —In a note left to
W. H. Sherman, assistant cashier of
the Merchants bank, which closed
doors today, Eugene Eoseborough,
vice president of the bank, who com
mitted suicide at an early hour this
morning, divulged that i:e was short
one hundred and thousand
dollars and that the money had been
taken during a period of fifteen years.
The bank will open tomorrow for
the collection of due paper and a
statement of its condition is promis
ed as soon as an investigation Is fin
ished.
Bank officials said tonight that ev
ery depositor will be paid in full.

From' indications the month of No
vember will be a good one in ship
ping at the port of Brunswick, and
when things are lively along the riv
er front it is generally the same A r ay
throughout the city. iA number of
vessels are now enroute here, among
them being the 11. C. Folger, a tank
er, from Texas City, with a cargo of
crude off for the Atlantic Refinery,
and on Monday the Leyland liner
Guantanimo is due from Colon to
take on a cargo of railroad iron ftom
the Strachan Shipping company for
points 1h Cuba. TMs Is some of the
iron used by the mid Georgia Coast
and Peidmout railway. The tanker
William Irish is due on November II
and another tanker will arrive about
the 13.
The tanker J. V. Van 'Dyke is also
enroute. On ths ship are Richard
Everett,' Ben Lobach, Ames and East
man. four well-known young Bruns
wickians, who are members of the
crew.
Besides the ships mentioned above
there may be a Unumber. of others,
and. from all the indications, Novem
ber will be an excellent shipping
month.
