WOLF-DOG KILLB LYNX
AND RABBIT AS CAMERA
MAN TAKES ACTUAL SCENE
i r .
Some of the most remarkable
achievements in the use of wild ani
mals for a motion picture are said to
have beeh accomplished in the pro
duction of the James Oliver Curwood
story, “Kazan.” which comes to the
Grand Theatre today.
Most remarkable of all is said to be
the work of the wolf-dog who plays
the part of “Kazan the killer.” In
one. scene this dog is shown with his
mate, a real wolf, and her litter of
whelps In their cave. In another
scene the great, black curly-haired
dog chases and captures a rabbit in
the snow. He carrier his prey back
to the cave and its inmates.
Then, later, while Kazan is off on
the hunt, a big lynx prowls tip to the
rock in front of the little den and en
ters. What happens in the cave can
not be sedh on the screen, but the
Janies Oliver Curwood story says that
the vicious lynx killed the wolf pups
and blinded their mother. The lynx is
seen stealing out, licking her chops,
and behind her comes the mother
wolf, pawing blindly at her eyes. Ka
zan appears, sees the lynx, and then
what is declared to be the most ter
rific battle even seen on a motion pic
ture screen between two wild animals
takes place.
FAMOUS ESTATE IS
SHOWN IN PICTURE.
i
, The million dollar motion picture
production is an established Vita
graph institution and this company
never permits a question of cost to
prevent the attainment of the best
possible*results. When, however, lo
cations that are as perfect as any that
might be built to order are found and
can be* obtained at comparatively
small cost advantage is naturally .tak
en of them.
When Albert E. Smith, president of
Vitagraph, ohftaiued the picture rights
to “It Isn’t Being Done This Season,”
a sensational story by Thomas Edge
low, as a vehicle for Corinne’ Grjffith,
it was planned to produce Oriental
gardens and buildings in one of the
Vitagraph studios to represent the
estate of Afif Bey, a wealthy Turk in
Smyrna. Location- scouts., however,
discovered an estate belonging to an
artist at East Ham**©**.' Long Island,
with the egact Oriental atmosphe.re
and architecture desired and obtained
the privilege of taking the scenes
t here.
“It Isn’t Being Done This Season"
will be shown at the Bijou theatre to
day.

interpret this appointment as a high
honor and a serious responsibility.
The public has come to look upon
Dodge Brothers as manufacturers of a
high order of integrity.
This district, in particular, has eviden
ced implicit confidence in their honesty
of purpose—and a marked preference
for their product.
A close and careful study of Dodge
Brothers’ methods of business has taught
us that, they, in turn, require that their
representatives shall scrupulously pro
tect the confidence reposed in them by
the public.
With eleven years of close association
and intimate dealings with the public of
this community, and with the prestige
gained by fair and honest dealings dur
ing all these years, we take this oppor*
