BOYS ON A LONG HIKE
PASS THROUGH THIS CITY
James Meehan. Henry Heinman and
Jacob Wiseberg, all about 19 years
of age, apd a rather peculiar combi
nation, from a standpoint of national
ity, passed through Brunswick yester
day on a long hike. The three young
men left Boston, Mass., more than/
six weeks ago and announced that
their destination was San Diego, Cal.,
but they first wanted to see Florida,
one of the boys having a brother in
Jacksonville.
Two of the youngsters are on foot,
while one does most of his traveling
jon a bicycle. “We have not walked
all the way from Boston,” said Hcin
mann, who seems to head the party,
“fer many miles have we been given
a free rfde by tourists. We expect
to catch .a ride out of Brunswick to
day and hopoe to be in Jacksonville
tonight. We expect to stick together,
the three of us, an Irishman, a Dutch
man. and a Jew;, until we reach San
Diego, which we hope to do by March
first, provided, catch
a sufficient number of rides.”
The hoys said thus far oh their trip
they had enjoyed the novelty very
much. that, they would have caught
more rides, except that many tourists
seemed afraid to pick them up.
A CARD.
Brunswick, (la., Nov. 2, 1921. —To
my friends and the public: At the re
cent mass meeting held at the city
hail in the intercut of the proposed
St. Simon roadway, the concluding act
lof that gathering was the request
from someone to the effect that all
favorable to the project should arise.
f It seems I was the only one to re
main seated.
In simple justice to myself l desire
to say that I am In no way opposed
to the St. Simon’s project, the very
contrary Is true. I am very much in
favor of it though 1 d<> think the
Klloucester alreei route t preferable,
even if tho cost is greater. But l
stand for anything thut will advance
the interests of Brunswick
My reason far not getting to my
feet at the mass meeting was this: I
keenly resent the attitude of some
In the mater of the proposed con
detonation and nataure of my proper
ty for school purposes without ade
quate compensation, aid especially so
when there Is other property just
ps suitable for the purpose* Intended.
In this connection I wish also lo say
that it Is untrujf that ! have at auv
time placed a pohiblHve price on my
property. I have asked no more than
I thought and still helieve it to be
worth, and l propose to get it. If It is
humanly possible to do so.
Aa I view It ! have virtually been
told I was not wanted as a Htlson.
Because or what I hold to be an an
tagonistic attitude 1 regarded mv p*v*
euce at the af resald meeting purely
in the Right of an onlooker, since I am
practically being forced to leave
Bruuawkk.
It seems to me there is no other
course open to me. U I am to retain
that measure of self-respect which ev
ery man most entertain, If he is to
held up his head. But I am for the St.
Strron bridge now and all the time.
