RED CROSS FOR
A PtRFECT UNIT
Representatices of Brunswick’s
Younger Set Will Call on Pub
lic During Coming Week and
It is Expected That City Will
Show Up Well.
Mrs. George Palmer Smith, chair
man of the local committee in charge
of the Red Cross Roll Call intends to
have every business house, fraternal
order and civic organization in the
city of Brunswick enrolled as one hun
dred per cent units of the Red Cross
when the roll call ds completed this
month.
“If anyone should stop a moment to
realize how important the work of the
Ret Cross is, the local committee
feels assured that they will not hesi
tate to enroll at the first opportunity,”
the chairman of the local organization
declared.
Brunswick) citizens will have the op
portunity to enroll next week when
representatives of the city’s younger
set will call upon the business estab
lishments seeking memberships. The,
canvass of the business section will
be carried on later in order that those
who do not have a place of business
in the business district will have an
opportunity to enroll.
Definite plans for the roll call here
are being made now and will be an
nounced within the next few days.
MOTHER AND HER FOUR
CHILDREN DIED IN FIRE
(By Associated Press.)
Toledb, 0., Nov. 3.—A mother and
four children, three girls and a boy,
were burned to death shortly after 6
o’clock this morning when fire de
stroyed the fruit store and apartment
of Wolf Greenburg, Indiana avenue
and Ewing streets. The dead are:
Mrs. Greenburk, the mother; Eva, 15;
Anna, 13; David, 6; and Leah, 9.
The father and four other children,
who were sleeping in artother room,
were able to escape, but flames frus
trated attempts to rescue the mother
and smaller children. The fire was
discovered by one of the sons only
after it had filled the apartment with
smoke and pained considerable head
way.
When firemen reached the second
flor they found Mrs. Greenburg and
two children burned to death and tw<o
others, suffocated, seated in chairs.

The new estimate was presented by
the President in connection with de
ficiency estimates of appropriations
of $187,922,567.74 which Mr. Harding
said, were taken into consideration
in arriving at the new estimates for
the 1922 expenditures.
ONLY SIX-MINES WERE
WORKING YESTERDAY

Terre Haute, Ind., Nov. 3. —Reports
Received this morning at headquarters
of the United Mine Workers in this
city showed that only six of the /soft
coal mines were working in Indiana.
These mines in operation were scat
tered throughout the district and none
pf them are large producers.
President John Hessler of the dis
trict union was holding in abeyance
the issuance of a formal strike <4Fder
and It was stated at union headquart
ers that such steps liikely would not
be nedessary at the mines. Officials
assert that within another day all
mines in the district will he closed.
Reports received here also said that
most of the mines in the Brazil block
coal field, adjacent to Terre Haute,
also were closed.
