It is proposed to make a toll bridge

PONDER WELL fftts QUESTION!
We wonder if H* time will ever
come in Brunswick, when all of her
people, without re.so;ct to ai> one
thing except the gro<vM and the de
velopment of this r<4v, can be able to
come together in broad minded citi
zenship and unite and move forward,
as one solid phalanx for the common
good?
We wonder, Oh, Lori as we have
prayed for full twenty years, ’.f the
time will ever come" the narrow
minded and the bigotted citizen will
not be so ashamed of himself tnat he
will renounce his calling as knock
er and blocker of progress and either
join in the movement for develcpmett
or crawl in his tent and suik. without
having either the o.fcial rank or the
private position that serves to make
him a menace, because he misuses
the power he might use for good?
You, who have lived in Brunswick
for the past two decades, look back
wards for a few moments with us this
morning in retrospect that gives us
sorrow and observe that in every
great movement In these two score
years, a certain element has contest
ed and fought each of them to the
very last ditch. And what has been
the character and the nature of citi
zenship represented in this great neg
ative battle that has been waged so
unrelentlessly for all of these years?
Has it been the man who lacked op
portunity for learning and who has
fought progress and development be
cause of sheer ignorance and lack of
knowledge? Has it .been the Inob
scure citizen, who jfb&s his lowly way,
lives unto himself and cares not about
the general weal or the general woe
of the community in which he lives?
The answer in both cases is no r em
phatically no. The great obstacle to
Brunswick's jhas for all of
these years and is today—a few men
who have run their race; who have
made their limited fortunes and who
care not If another industry ever
comes to Brunswick, as long as their
own are happy in a monopoly in its
special line.
That’s the truth, the plain unvar
nished, unembellished truth and we
stand here this morhjrg and make
that statement in the full knbwledge
of what It means to this poor, suffer
ing community who for so long have
ended the blighting Influence of such
a condition!
Is this the proper place for young
men to cast their lots in the present
hour, when the supreme effort of many
oL the progressive men of the city, is
being exerted in a great public move
ment and when this same coterie of
men are scattering poison gas and bit
ter and untrue propaganda against It?
Is there an honest, intelligent man
In Brunswick who believes- that the
success of the St. Simon bond issue
next Wednesday would in five years
or at any other time, bring a default
in Interest paymerfU and a receiver
ship to Brunswick following mandam
us proceedings and a loss of personal
ly owned property?
Docs any man in Brunswick bell ve
that? Yet that's some of the false
and unfair propaganda that is being
whispered In the ears of honest men
by those who know that the statement
Is untrue.
is thare a man In Brunswick who
believes that the St. Simon bridge,
if voted for by the people, would be
started by the Glynn county commis
sioners and then when a large sum
of money had been invested In the en
terprise, they wdutd abandon the job
and leave it “stuck In the mud" be
tween here and St SimonT
Does any man in Brunswick believe
that? Vet that has been said to the
plain, honest trusting Brunswick man
who In his heart of hearts wants to
do his bit for Brunswick; wants to
see Brunswick grow and prosper and
become the great city that God and
nature Intended her to be I
Shame on such conditions!
Wc say it is a burning shame that
calls for drastic treatment that such
piopaganda should be resorted to by
any individual, whose place in the bus
iness community is such as to give it
standing with any class of our citiien
shlp.
The truth of the matter is that this
proposed bridge to St. Simon is the
largest and the moat progressive
movement before the people of this
city; it will make anew condition In
the communty in a years and it
will bring handsome returns on the
investment, as ch improvements
have done, literally all over the statf
of Florida. Instead of Increasing tax
es. it will, by increasing values, re
duce them; it will bring new buisness
enterprises and new business mean,
new money and new population!
It is a splendid progressive, broad
minded move for a bigger and a bet
ter community and the man who ten*
y?u differently Is e'ther deliberately
misleading you or Is woefully

live and ought to live them in a more
righteous cause, than that of tearing
down what others build up!
We ask you fellow citizens of Glynn
county to pin your faith to your city
and your county officials—the commis
sioners of both city and county stand
for you and who represent you and
who would not for a moment enter,
into any movement of a public -nature
that would mean trouble or hardship
for you! i ..j
This bond election should carry; it
must carry, in a time of stress and
woe not peculiar to Brunswick, but
world-wide, the plan is suggested as
a means of relief and as a sure way of
bringing anew era of growth, ,of
wealth, of happiness and of develop
ment to the community.
(Don't turn it down!
The Brunswick citizefa who has
been filled with wrong- ideas about the
■St. Simon highway project should
'bear in mind some facts. He should
remember that the County commis
sioners, the City commissioners, the
Board of Trade, the Young Men’s Club
the Rotary Club have all endorsed
and are aiding the work. Are *ll ol
these wrong?
