' Still in hi? early thirties, William
j Christy Cabanne : s one of the most
notable of the director-authors known
to the screen world. In the produc
ing field his exceptional workhas
been recognized for several,- (
Possessing a strong, dramatic sense,
he has yet been able to rettaftf J his
youthful viewpoint or life with its
lighter shadings.
Mr. Cabann-3 is a protege of D. W.
Griffith, who was impressed some., ten
years ago with the prolific ideas of
jjte young man.' Ho became an assis
tant director and worked with Mr.
Griffith on such masterpieces as “The
Birth of a Nation” and “Intolerance.”
Since then, however, Mr. Cabanne
has been directing independently.
“The Beloved Cheater,*” “Life’s
Twist,” and “The Notorious Mrs.
Sands” showed his mettle and then
he obtained full recognition as the
author-director, of “The Stealers.”
“What’s a Wife Worth?”, a story of
trmendous patties, is the second of
this series that Mr. Cabanne is mak
ing under the Robertson-Cole ban
ner, which will be shown at The
Grand again today.

The problem was solved by putting
