THE EFFICIENT WOMAN.
We hear a groat deal nowadays
about the efficiency of women. In the
tarrhal mucus from the Intestinal tract
novels of fifty years ago, who ever
heard a woman praised for her execu
tive ability, force and energy. Ip the
sense that It Is used today? The frail,
delicate, helpless ideal of womanhood
has passed away. How is it possible
to measure up to the ideals of mod
ern womanhood? In the first place,
we must keep our, bodies in the best
possible condition.
THEATRICAL
theatrical —seene from —hand head..
One of the feature musical skits
presented by the j’-imory University
Glee Club, “the south’s sweetest sing
ers,” which will appear at the Grancf
Theatre, Wednesday night, is a
screamifig burlesque tn modern
grand opera. Elaborate female cos
umes and stage decorations are used
‘ocarry out the spirit o fthe nun\p:'
to the most minute detail.
The librette of ‘‘Grand Opera Up-to-
Date” was written by 0. R. Taylor, of
the Chicago Reccftl, who makes thcK
assertion that a grand opera ii the
tinniest kind of a show, if you, only
lake the right of it. To prove
his claims, he wrote an extremely
ludicrous scene, set in a modern
apartment house, W wjth the alarm o!
fire as his subject. He indeed gave
the musical w rld something new and
startling, but in his method o£ treat
’myit he followed reverently all the
traditions of grand opera.
The musical score of “Grand Opera j
fT p to-Datt?!” arranged by Frank J. j
Smith, includes the most popular se ,
eetioa* from “Fpa|t ” “II Trovature,”
and (ther popular l operas. The ac
companiment is rendered by the Em-j
Ury University Orchestra, which is;
accompanying the club on Its tour of
the south.
I While the burlesque shows the voi
ces of the entire 30 men at their best,
it sito gives the soiosiats an oppor
tunity t do some intricate vocal
dramatic work. It incidentally brings
out the fact that evening dresses are
j becoming to cortege boys.
