Manager Sapp, the Local Mana
ger of the Company, Attend
ed and Reports a Cuccessful
Gathering. *
H. W. Sapp, manager of the local
office of the Western Union Tele
graph company, has returned from a
three day conference held at the Pied
mont hotel, Atlanta, with the officials
of the company and managers of offi
ces in the states of Georgia and Ala
bama.
Among the company officials pres
ent were H. C. Worthen, general man
ager, Atlanta; A. C. Kaufman, of New'
York, general commercial agent; H.
W. Griffis, Atlanta, division commer
cial agent; B. F. Ragsdale, distal t
commercial superintendent; C. 2.
Carroll, city superintendent, Atlanta
W. W. Acuff, city superintendent 3ii
mingham, and C. H. Mulford, city sup
erintendent, Savannah.
During the conference and on the
program were several important pa
pers dealing with the needs of the
service in the state. While the dis
cussions were confined more or less
to technical subjects, or those with
a direct bearing on the operation of
the telegraph lines of the state, it
was plainly brought out that during
the last few years the telegraph has
become a. more important factor in
te general run of commerce than ev
er before and is now' employed exten
sively by business houses for building
greater sales and for developing new
territory.
Rates, services of all classes, and
efficiency were among the subjects
handled at the meeting. Managers of
ilfty-five of the larger Georgia and
Alabama offices were present, includ
ing Mr. Sapp, who addressed the
meeting on subjects that were of
much interest. The visiting officials
addressed the meeting and a round
table discussion followed during
which the Important part that Wes
tern Union and its employees are ex
pected to take in the advancement of
business reconstruction everywhere,
was deflnitel youtllned.

CITY COURT MAY
AGAIN REEiSS
Was to Have Resumed Work
Monday Morning, But Many
Matters Interferred With the
Coming Week.
The city court rf which recessed un
til next Monday morning, is likely net'
to* be called on that date but may j
go over until Monday, December 5,
for various reasons. 0i4%0f these is
the fact that the Brantley' county su
perior court will be called on that
date and a large number of witnesses,
whio have been summoned for the city
court, have also received the little
slips telling them to be at Hoboken.
Not only witnesses, but many attor
neys have cases there. Members of
'he county police department, who
assisted in raid over the county line,
have also been summoned. Sheriff
Howard came down from Hoboken
last night and is summoning witness
es.
In the event Judge Butts decides to
until the date above men
tioned, December 5, it is the inten
tion of Clerk dußignoii to arrange
it s-o as the jurors who have v served
at the present session Am get their
script. A notice of the court’s decis
ion will be published in these columns
tomorrow morning.
MUCH INTEREST IS TAKEN
MISS WHELESS’ CONCERT
Everything is' progressing nicely
in connection with the concert by
Miss Gladys Wheless, to be given at
the Grand here cn December 2, under
the auspices of th£ Brunswick Wo
men’s Club and the indications are
that this sweet singer will bo greeted
by* a full house. •’’
Every city in which Miss Wheless
has visited there comes the very high
est praise of her evening’s entertain
ment. In this connection the Atlanta
Journal said of her singing there:
“You fc>rget your reasons for com
ing to hear Gladys Wheless sing*
yon only know that she has a glori
ous voice and you settle in your seat
for the pure enjoyment of listening.
“This is the feeling which w'as
shared by the majority of people who
attended the concert given ip the ball
room of the Capital City club when
she was presented by the Atlanta Wo
