SMILING HfCOT GIBSON
COMING IN “SURE FIRE”
Hoot Gibson and his winning smile
come to the Grand Ttheatre today in a
new Universal feature, “JSure Fire/’
adapted from the novel “Bransford of
Rainbow Ridge.”
The breezy cowboy saunters from
one thrill to another in his inimitably
affable manner. Jeff Bransford seem?
to have been written particularly for
Hoot Gibson, so perfectly does Eugene
Manlove Rhode’s famous character fit
the smiling Western star.
The story, produced under the di-
rection of Jack Ford, director of many
Harry Cary successes, is jammed and
crammed with red-blcoded action.
■ Sure Fire” is the fighting drama of
3 man who makes good—a vagabond
cowpuncher, who shows his worth for
r .n othing more than riding the range.
In many respects it even a better
picture than “Action” and /Red Cour
age,” Gibson’s two previous successes.
Opposite the smiling star is Molly
Malone, the pretty little leading lady,
who also played the chief feminine
ro’o in “Red Courage.” A notable cost
of Universal celebrities "supports Gib
son, and nunjbers such names as
Br -ezy Eason. Jr., Fritzi Brunette,
Harry Carter, Murdock McQuarrie,
George Fisher, Charles Newton, Jack
Woods, Jack Walters, Joe Harris, and
Steve Clements.
George C. Hall has made a fast
moving scenario from the adventur
ous novel by the noted author of virile
western tales, Eugene Manlove
Rhodes. • ,
TOM MIX TO BE SEEN
AS CHAMPION RESCUER
When Tom Mix opens at the Bijou
Theatre today in the Fox picture,
“The Big Town Round-Up.”’ he will
exhibit what is said to be an exceed
ingly fine line of rescue work. The
“Round-Up,” in which the action
switches horn a ranch to ’Frisco'and
back again, is crowded, of course,
with thrilling incident—else it would
not be a Mix entertainment. Among
the thrills are a number due to resettp
work.
For example, Mix rescues a girl
front a ruffian's insults by throwing*
the ruffian off a speed rain. He
rescues this same girl later a
bunch of city t hugs in a c U’e. He
rescues the heroine from % big rattle
snake on his/ranch by*hif accurate
long distance alfn with a rihe. He
rescues her agaiu in the city when sho
falls before a stampeding sh-er at the
stockyards. And he saves from death
in a city park u little girl who is har.£
ing head down on her runaway pony.
Also he is kept tolerably busy rescu
i ing himself from his enemies.
I When Mix isn't rescuing somebody
i he’s fighting r. gang of 'bugs—with
intermissions for attention to the Only
Girl.
Ora Carewe is his leading woman.
The story of “The Big Town Round-
Up” was written by Wiliam McLeod
Raine and the picture was directed
by Lynn F. Reynolds—who also made
the scenario.
