A SIGNPOST ON OUR ROAD.
Anybody who has collateral to put
up can get money at 5 per cent from
the Federal Reserve Bank, What
does this mean. What is behind the
reduction of the Reserve Bank’s redis
count rate from 5 1-2 to 5 per cent?
it simply means that the Federal Re
serve banjo Juis ct large accumulation
of money-ftfsft- ft would like to loan.
And what does this accumulation of
money means that there 4s
very fce|eral improvement
throughout the cdhntry in business,
and that in the South, where this
reduction occurred, there is a partic
ularly ibetter. dutldqk, for the re-dis
’Count rale in ‘ftre South is smaller than
frf some of the other Federal Reserve
fceriters, says the Savannah News.
The rate early this year was 7 per
cent. Then it went down to 6 and
then .tr: 5 1-2. The new cut to 5 per
cent, coming right in the holiday sea
son is taken to mean that money is go
ing jto he easy at the beginning of the
New Year and all sorts. of conditions
will be ripe for an era of development
along all lines —as such an era may
be expected when money is accumu
lated and the rate the borrower of
money has to pay for its use is low.
The cut in the discount rate has been
[likened to piitting#ftne oil in the cogs
ind bearings of Industrial and agricul
tural machinery—things go smoother,
more power of (development is produce
sd with less frictiou.
' Consider that in less than a year
this rediscount rate has been reduced
from 7 to 5 per cent. This means
that the man who wants to borrow
■noney to build, to enlarge his plant,
o go into new business, to do any of
(lie tpanifold things for which men
w’lsh to borrow money, can borrow
money more cheaply than he coyld. a
year ago; and the fact that he can
borrow it cheaply is directly traceable
to the fact that the money accumula-
Ton is large enough to cause the Fed
eral Reserve Bank to make borrowing
mor<> attractive for the borrower.
The rate goes up when money gets
Scarce in the bank; It comes down
when money accumulates. The law
of supply and daman,' Is the determin
ing factor here. And if follows that
as money is easier to get, as the bar
ower finds it easier to borrow money,
business is hound to become more
brisk,j there is bound to be more
building, more enlarging, more activ
ity generally, which causes more jobs
for more men, latter payrolls, more
customers for the stores, more buyers
of the things the fanners produce,
m&r<> of everything that s good for the
business alike of community, state
and nation.
That’s what we all want; more boe-
Inesg activity, V<l the cut In the Ffed
‘sral Reserve Hank's rediscount rate is
lust a big sign post which shows tile
way wo nr<> traveling—the wy to
ward more Inis!ness, more employ
ment. better conditions generally
for all of üb. It means that more
money is going to bo put to work for
all of u*. It means a general loosen
ing up. a general lubricating, for eas
ier motion of the wheels of trade, It
means that the lifeblood of activity,
of business, of employment, Is getting
back Into th, nation’s veins. When
money can be had at rates attractive
*o the borrower, business activity fid
lows. That has happened through his
lory, and ft will happen this time. We
can all he sure of that. That Is why
The Morning News directs special at

who trust, most surely Santa waits;
and many a brighter dream is held
because of him, we think, and many a
heart is held because of him, we think,
and many a heart is lifted up that oth
erwise would sink.
Oh, hail the season and the man, the
jolly wight that bears a healing balm
for all our woes and all our daily
cares! As long as children live on
earth, as as youth is youth, as
long as hearts are fond of mirth, as
long as truth is truth, there’ll be a
Santa Claus, you bet., for old as well
as young, to keep alive the Christmas
spell with crystal memories hung.

Oklahoman Praises Black-Draught,
Having Used It “Can Safely
Say for 50 Years.”
Grandfleld, Okla. —Cne of the beat
known farmers of Tilman County, Mr.
G. W. Tisdale, who owns and manage*
a wagon yard here, says:
"I have used Thedford’s Black-
Draught—l believe I can safely say fo
fifty years.
“I was born and reared In Texas,
Freestone County, sixty-four years ago.
I hai& been married forty-four years.
My father used Black-Draught before I
was married, and gave It to us . . .
"For forty-four years of my married
life, It has had a place on our medi
cine shelf, and is the only laxative, or
liver medicine, we use. We use it
for torpid liver, sour stomach, head
ache, indigestion ... I don’t think we
could get along without It, knowing
what it has done for us, and the money
It has saved. It is just as good and re
liable today as it was when we began
its use. My boys use it and they art
satisfied it’s the best liver medicine
they have ever used.”
Thedford’s Black-Draught is purely
vegetable, not disagreeable to take
and acts in a prompt and natural way.
So many thousands of persons have
been benefited by the * se of Thedford’e
Black-Draught, you should have no
hesitancy In trying this valuable old
well-established remedy, for most liver
and stomach disorders. NC-139b.
