Among Other Things Causing
This is Reduction of Rates
Announced by Federal Re
serve Banks of Sixth District
Announcement of the Federal Re
serve Bank of the Sixth District, At
lanta, of a reduction of interest rates
to 5 percent has had much to do
with the sudden increase in money
in circulation throughout the district.
It struck Brunswick and it has been
easier here for the past several days.
Response by banks, which are mem
bers of tlie Federal ’Reserve system,
was almost instant and local finan
ciers were greatly pleased at the an
nouncement of the bank in Atlanta
and regard it as the best possible
evidence that money is becoming
more plentiful and conditions general
ly, Improving.
The Interest rate a year afgo was 7
per cent. Until the new reduction it
has been five and a half per cent, for
the last few weeks. The announce
ment now made by the Federal Re-
serve institution that tne rate will be
6 per cent, means that anyone who
wishes to borrow money and who
has the collateral to put up can get
all he wants if he is acceptable to the
Federal Reserve Bank
The voluntary reduction of the in
terest rates is taken to indicate that
the Federal Reserv e Bank has an ac
cumulation of money which it wishes
to put out. If the business interests
of the South takes advantage of it,
as it is anticipated it will do, a rapid
improvement of general conditions is
expected to be the result.

SALVATION ARMY
COLLECTING COKES
The Little Pasteboards, Mes
sengers of Mercy, Might Have
Been Better “Loaded” This
Christmas.
Capt. Walsh and his co-workers
have been busy the past several days
collecting in th e “mite boxes,” which
were distrbuted early in the at
places in all parts of the city, inclu
ding scores of ’ The little
pastefboards packages are messages
of mercy but did not receive the at
tention this year as formerly. The
usual number of pennies, nickles and
dimes, etc., were not deposited and
for this reason, Capt. Walsh and bis
band of workers must have help and
there should be no hesitation about
it. Not the least.
There is no organization in the en
tire world that has done more for
humanity than the Salvation Array
and the scope of their w r ork is of a
world-wide nature. It’s organization
extends to places that others do not
reach and even here in Brunswick it
has done wonderful good and saved
souls by kind words and health by
charity.
This year the number who are to
come under the sheltering wing of the
Army is larger than usual and unless
the public assists in a substantial
way and right now, there will be dis
appointements this Yuletide season.
