Brunswick retail merchants, and

l ave had since last Monday morning,
vhen the Christmas shopping season
commenced with a rush and continued
active right up to the’closlng hour last

Despite the shop-early propaganda
and advice, there were crowds of last
minute buyers, and yesterday was one
(t the busiest days of the year in lo
cal trade circles. Asa matter of fact,
buying has been active the entire
week, and the business men were
loth delighted and surprised ut the
■volume of business handled during
the week.
Thp retail stores ok Brunswick had
assembled one of the largest, most
varied and complete assortments of
holiday merchandise ever shown here,
but as a result \ t the very active buy

week, which goes to show ihat Bruns

There is not a merchant or a clerk
in Brunswick who is net real tired
this morning (because they all worked
like Trojans from the minute their
establishments were opened early yes

night and vehicles of all kinds will be
around this morning delivering as
early as possible the purchases of
those who waited until the last radi

There was never such a large num
ber of out-of-town shoppers as was the
case yesterday. While merchants re
ported good sales all the week to
Brunswick’s country friends and cus
tomers, yesterday was the banner day
and every train leaving carried pur
chasers with any and all kinds of ar
ticles, as the seats of the cars’ were
piled high with any and everything
imaginable, from the little toy to an
expensive talking machine.
This season the people have bought
useful articles 'more generally than
ever before and all who came here
from the country districts have been
pleased with the treatment they re
ceived at the uands of the merchants
and the people of the city generally’.
One thing seems to he absolutely
