At the First Methodist services will
be held at hte usual hour, 11:30 a. m.,
and 7:30 p. m. At the Presbyterian,
Rev. F. D. Thomas will preach at
11:30 and the eveping service will be
especially for young men and young
ladies who are home from various col
leges for the holidays. At Sa. Francis
Xavier’s Catholic church mass w T ill be
held at midnight and during at the
day at the following ohurs: 7,8, 9,
9:30 a. m., and benediction at 7:30
p. m. Usual services will be held at
McKendree Methodist at 11:30 a.- m.
and 7:30 p. m. The Advent Christian
church, Rev. Edwin C. Hardison, pas
tor, will hav special services at the
usual hours, 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p. m.
At the First Baptist Rev. O, P. Gilbert
will deliver a special sermon. At'St.
.Mark’s the line new organ just -in
stalled will be used for the first time
and Rev. William Johnson, the rec
tor, invites the public to be present.,

Columbus, (Ohio, Dec. 24. —While a
decided fall in temperature late to
night halted the almiost continuous
rainfall during the last twenty-four
hours, prolwbly removing the threat
ened general flood menace in the
Hocking valley section, It Is reported
that it Is the worst flood since 1907.
From Athens last reports were that
hundreds of families had been forced
jfrom their homes in the valley be
tween ! Logan and Hcoklng Port and
that a half dozen villages were experi
encing the worst flood in a decade.
It Is Indicated tonight that still high
er water Is expected. No loss of-life
Is reported. The Ohio river is said to
be rising at ter ate of from four to
seven Inches each hour in Lancaster
It Is said many familltles have been
driven from their homes.

Chicago, Dec, 24—The
Christmas message to the “disabled
ex-service men of America’ 'was is
sued today by National Commander
Henford MacNider in the of the
American Legion:
“T 0 you men who are fighting the
brav e fight against the effects -of your
service of our country, the American
Legion of your comrades sends Christ
mas greetings with every sincere wish
for your speedy recovery and future
happiness. Every American shall be
indebted to you so Tong as the nation
endures and your cause shall always
be first on the program of the Ameri
can Legion.
“We intend to see that you get ,a
square deal from the country you
fought for. We would expect you to
•fight our were our positions
reversed. We aiume that responsi
bility is a privilege and an honor.
Today we are asking the United
States Veterans’ Bureau to adopt a
plan which, if accepted, will finally
end your worries over compensation
claims. The American Legion reports
for a New Year’s duty. Give us your

KILLED HER HUSBAND; IS
NOW BRIDE SECOND TIME
Santiago, Chile, Dec. 24. —Blanca
Errazuriz Vargara, who in 1917 near
Westhury, New York, shot and in
stantly killed her divorced husband,
John L. DeSaulles, was married today
to Fernando Santa Cruz Wilson, a
wealthy Chilean.
Mrs. De Saulles shot her former
husband at the doorway of her cot
tage on Long Island, and was indicted
for murder. She was tried and ac-
quitted and afterwards resumed her
maiden name and returned to Chile,
her native country. De Saulles was
famouN In his college days as a star
football player at Yale.
DEBS TO KEEP QUIET UNTIL
RELEASED FROM PRISON
Atlanta ( Dec. 24. —Eugeue V. Debs
was formally notified today that hie
ten year sentence had been commuted
to expire tomorrow.
The noted prisoner received the tid
ings calmly. He said, however, that
he would reserve commept until ac
tually outside of the prison walls.
The hour of release has not been an
nounced but it Is thought that it will
be early tomorrow morning. .

stolen Wednesday night from the ga

cessories by the light of a fire at the
roadside, teh oil drawn, and then re
turned and left in front of his home.
