FATHER COMES INTO HIS
OWN IN PICTURE “THE
GOOD PROVIDER.”
Vera Gordon and Dore Davidson Fea
tured in Brilliant Production.
Mother takes a back seat and father
conies into the limelight in "The Good
Provider.” featuring Vera Gordon and
Dore Davidson which will be present
ed at the Bijou theatre today and to
morrow.
This picture bears considerable re
semblance to “Humoresque,” but dif
fers from it in that it is regarded by
some critics as even a better produc
tion. Like "Humoresque,” it was writ
ten by Fannie Hurst and directed by
Frank Borzarge.
"The Good Provider.” a Cosmopoli
tan-Paramount picture, is an epic ol
fatherhood. Its central charact"
Julius Winswanger. is a merchant
who by dint of unceasing toil, self
| immolation and devotion raises his
| wife and two children from the status
to Russian immigrants to comfortably
(situated small town middle class folk.
I And no sooner are they prosperous
i than Becky. Izzy and Pearl, the chil-
I dren, tire of the country town and
f long for the city—the haven of girls
j searching for husbands.

less as babes in connecting With
Toles’ swift curves. The local pitcher
was brilliantly supported by his team

Manager Miller is pleased with the
