SECRET SOCIETY STARTS
SCREAMS IN PENROD
To thousands of merj, who are still

and secret societies of their boyhood
there is a delicious treat coming in
Marshall Neilan’s presentation of
'“Penrod’,” Marshall Neilan’s latest
First National attraction which will
b e . shown at the Bijou Theatre today.
“Penrod" is the film adaptation ol
Booth Tarkington’s inimitable boy
hood creations and the presentation
at the Bijou Theatre marks the first
screen appearance of Penrod in one
complete film. Tty* picture furnishes
a vivid reminder of boyhood’ days with
its opening scenes taken in th head
quarters of the American Boyts’ Pro
tective Association.
This is a secret society of which
Penned is the charter member and
president. It has its headquarters in
a cave dug into the ground and en
larged to provide kneeling room for
the thirty disciples of the freedom of
American boys. The organization
has “nishiashions,” “symbols.” “grips”

“LASSES” WHITE AND HIS
BIG ALL STAR MINSTRELS
“Lasses” White and his own' corrP'
pany, known as the Ail Star Minstrels
will b e the attraction at the Grand
Theatre on Tuesday, October 10th. ]
Patrons of minstrels will recall “Lass
es” as a leading comedian with vari
ous first class black face organiza
tions that have toured the country and
the many friends and admirers that
he there made are greatly pleased
that his sucess has been so pronounc
ed since he became the owner of his
own company. Unlike the case of oth.
er minstrels who, in the past. hav P at
tained to ownership and there rested
on their laurels, with “Lasses” it sim
ply means increased work, as he not
alone appears in every show but as
sumes complete responsibility for the
whole performance. In short, he
writes the sketches and many of the
songs, creates th e comedy scenes and
stages the entire entertainment. He
is surrounded this season by an excep
tionally strong company that is larger
than was ever before associated with
him.
