LOCAL EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE ACTS IN
SENATORIAL RACE
Democratic Veters of Glynn
County Are Urged to Support
Nominee in Election Next
Tuesday. *
Communication Approved By a
Majority of Glynn County
Executive Committee Issued
to Democrats of the County.
To the Democratic Voters of Glynn
County:
The 'Fourth Senatorial District is
composed of the counties of Glynn l ,
Camden and Charlton, those court
ties .'rotating in iho selection of Jibe
senator and under this plan it is Cam
den’s time tose!cct th e senaor. The
jfo p is. to nominate these candidates
in the Democratic Primary. In tha
Democratic primary clectio n held in
on September- 13th,
Mr. J. T. Vocelle was nominated by ;t
majority of something litre forty
votes over this opponent, Mr. A. .1 ■
Liles, as certified by the Democratic
Executive Committee of that coun
ty. Later Mr. Vocelle was nofnitial
e'd by tlie Democratic Senatorial con
vention, which assembled in Camden
county, and participated in by dele
gates i„ person or by proxy from each i
of the counties. Messrs. L. R. Akiny
and M. B. McKinnon were the dele
gates from this county and they;
sent their proxies to this |
convention- If Mr. Liles, or any of •
th e Democrats of Camden county who ■
w>ere opposing Mr. Vocelle, desired t il
contest the election it was their duty ;
to have made this contest, first before '
ho Demoeraic Executive Committee.
of Camden county, and if unsuccess-!
ful, the n before th e senatorial con-1
vention. They did neither of these j
things. Later, some of thes e oppe- i
nents of Mr. Vocelle induced Mi
Charles S. Arnow to become a caur I
didate as an independent against Mi j
Vocelle. v
Th c Democratic Executive Commit- j
tee of thi s county has no concern j
with the personal element entering
into the fight o n Mr, Vocelle, but of I
fkhilly represents tlie Democratic!
paity in this county and has a cep.
tain duty to perform l)> the Demon a* j
tic organization and to thc County |
of Glynn and the City of Brunswick - !
There was published in the Bruns- j
wick News of October 26th threo docu
ments, one an official statement from j
the registrar's of Comden county cer-;
tifying that they had fully performed j
their duty i n Purging the registration ;
list, also an affidavit from Mr. Clyde j
L. McCarty, a member of the board j
of registrars showing that he hail |
urged Mr. Lilies to have ad dissatis- j
fied persons to appear before the,
registrars in connect’on with their j
Purging of the registration list, and j
also a n open letter from Dr. Burweil:
Atkinson, one of the best knowri j
citizens of Camde n county, staling,
that Mr. Vocelle was regularly elect-!
ed as the Democratic nominee for
senator from tie's district and ap
pealing to all Democratic voters to
support him as such nominee. Both
Dr. Atkinson and Mr. -Clyde L. Mc-
Carty are well k.iow n to many citi- j
yens of this county. So ri ii -for the
regularity of the nomi lanon as show n
by the Democratic officials of Cam
den county.
It is a very serious matter for
persons participating in a primary
election to repudiate thc nominee of
that Primary and support an inde
pendent candidate. The white primary
system in Georgia, which is prac
tically the satne thing as the Demo
cratic primary system, has been the
political salvation of this state and
every intelligent Person knows this.
Th e Georgia Legislature is composed
almoi-J entirely of Democrats who are
regularly elected in Democratic nom
inations. It would, i n our judgment,
be a most serious mistake for any
number of the Democratic voters of
this county to repudiate a Demo
cratic nomination for a State office
and support on independent dandi
date for such an office. The Dem
ocrats of Brunswick and Glynn coun
ty and all the white people shoulj
Pause a°d seriously th : nk before they
take any such action. Wc appeal to
you to reflect what our position
would b e before the Democratic Geor
. gia Legislature for instance on any
matter vitally concerning the wel
fare of our city and county. Wy can
but believe that those of our good
citizens who are opposing Mr. Vo
celle, the regular
inee, hav e not stopped to consider
how disastrous the results might be
to our interest if their efforts should
succeed- Our Democratic voters
have just as much right from a par j
ty standpoint to vote for independent:
candidates, if any there should be, j
against Clifford Walker for governor,!
Walter George for tke U. S. senate
and J. J. Brown, for commissioner of
agriculture, as they have to oppose
Mr. Vocelle for the state senate. If
civil*,, t-sunty. hail, a iinihu situation

party and carried the contest to the
iiorly constituted authorities, and
all those in Camden county who are

D'moeiuiic primary should have
pursued this course, and not have
ca'-ried this bitter contest throughout
tlm entire district to- stir up strife
among people. Just see what a bad ef
lvrt it has already had in Giyr.n
canty. A number of our People are
espousing the cause of Mr. Arnow,
the independent candidate. W e can
not question their sincerity, hut the
situation is breeding strife, friction
and -feeling among our own people—
We who have strive,) so hard for har
mony, co-operation and good will
among ourselves, and if the Camden
county supporters of Mr. Arnow had
settled the matter by proper con
ley in (heir- ow n county, as they
should have done, w e would not be
suffering from the effects of the
kilter controversy.
We therefore, urge you, thc Dom
c,era tic voters, of -Glynn county, and
all others Who believe in and par
ticipate in Iho wh'te Primary system,
conform to Party regularity and
the rules of the white primary sys
tem, ami vote for Mr. Vocell e be
c u-y. he is the declared nominee of
(he Democratic party of the Fourth
Sectorial district.
This communication Ims bee n ap
proved by a majority cf tlie mem
bers of the Democratic committee of
this county.

J. P. Davenport, Chairman.
