steamer Lake Fannin reached hue
with a general cargo from New York

BODY OF UNKNOWN NEGRO

Coroner J. D. Baldwin, early yester
day morning, wept down to a point
near the mouth of Plantation creek
and removed fyom the edge of the
marsh the body of an unknown col
ored man, which was seen there the
day before and repot l ed. Mr. Bald
win is anxoius to learn the identity
of the unfortunate man and requests
that should any be missing from any
craft that the matter be. reported to
him.

The state depended mainly on the testimony of two women in the
trial of Clara Phillips, charged with the brutal murder of Alberta
Meadows near Los Angeles. Peggy Caffee, a friend of Mrs. Phi.lips and
companion on the murder journey, described the killing, while Molly
Swain’s testimony was regarded as very damaging to the defense.

for the murder of Howard Hoffman

being far off because of the difficul
ty expected in selecting a jury.

LKBrien’s district late last night and I
carried away a ballot boox and taliy
sheets.
Later Samifel Marrlzlo drove to
the City Hall with the ballots. He
said the poll raiders stopped him,
threw the ballots into his aiktomobile
and ordered him to speed up. Marrizio
was held for further questioning and
Chief of Police Fitzmorris ordered
the arrest of o‘Brion, who was caught
early today.

revival in shipping and it will start
right away. Among the ships bound
for Brunswick, to reach here at an
early date, may be mentioned the
American schooner Margaret Thorpe,
| from 'Boston, which will take on a
| cargo of ties from the Joyce-Watkins
company; the Esther Melbourne, also
an American schooner, will take o n a
cargo of piling from Reynolds Broth
ers, J.„ P. Cason, manager. Tire
steamhs'p New York City is soon due
for a cargo of naval stores from the
! Downing Company. This ship is to
|be handled through the Strachan
' Shipping Company as also will be the
| British steamship Tafna and the
| Japanese steamer Texas Maru. The
| latter vessel i s at present at Tampa
j and will load a t the Turtle river docks
| for Antwerp.
These are the vessels expected from
time to time during? the present
month, but othrs may be chartered
and, all in all, November promises to
be lively for the latter part of it at
least.
