GUS HILL’S MINSTRELS
TONIGHT
The tremendous succesg” of miris-

doubtedly due to the faejt that the.

the Public disposition toward the gay

those that thrill or evoke discussion j
at the present, time* i s also due to the

PRESIDENT GENERAL
U.D.C. DELIVERS
ANNUAL REPORTS
PRINCIPAL PROBLEMS ARE ME
MORIAL CHAPEL AND JEFF
DAVIS' MONUMENT.
Birmingham’ Ala., Nov. 15.—Mrs.
Livingston Rowe Schuyler, president -
general, delivered her annual report
to the United Daughtesr of the Con
federacy, at the second session of the
convention here this morning.
Reports as to the activities of the
organization were heard from other
national officers and from several
committees. Principal problems to
come . before the present convention,
it is said, are the creation of a fund
I for completing the memorial chapel
lat Washington and Lee University,
| and the completing of the Jefferson
Davis monument at Fairview, K.v., his
birthplace.
Plans also will be made for further*
ing the Jefferson Davis Highway
which will be a transcontinentla road,
extending from Washington, D. C., to
the Golden Gate at San Francisco.
Educational Work is another matter
to be brought before the meeting. The
organization is at present aiding more
than 300 students in obtaining col
lege educations at various schools of
the nation.
Mrs. Schuyler reported that New
Jersey is “now on the map of the Con
federacy,” a chapter having been or
ganized in that state since the last
convention.
In urging completion of the Jeffer
son Davis shaft at Fairview, Ky., the
president-general declared: “It rests
with us to see that he (Davis) re
ceives proper recognition. Otherwise
I—the liistory of jthe South will never
|be correctly told. It is hoped that
(•‘The Life and Letters of Jefferson Da
vis,’ now being published will estab
lish President Davis in his rightful
place before the world.”
