* “It is the plan of the convention to'
merge Mercer and Bessie Tift. This
wilUsavQ about eight thousand dol
lars jknunll.v in the faculty salary
and Bessie Tift the advantage of
a faculty second to none in the south.
Of course there will be no change in
the location of the schools. Profes
sors from Mercer will go to Forsyth
weekly to give instretion. This will
give the young women of the state
the same opportunity to have expert
instructors teach them that are at
present enjoyed by the young men of
Mercer University.
‘ Dr. Kufus W. Weaver has won the
hearts of Georgia Baptists. He can
get anything they have for the
schools of whcih he is chancellor. In
the Mercer system of schools there
being ten in all, namely. Mercer Uni
versity, Bessie liift college for young
women, and eight secondary schools.
Three of the secondary schools aie
located in South Georgia. Piedmond
Institute, at Way cross, it is hoped,
will be converted into an industrial
school for girls. In case this is done
the Baptist Woman's Missionary
Union will have it in charge and sup
ply a large Part of the finances. This
will have it in charge and supply a
large part of the finances. This will
move it from the Mercer System un
less the women decide to merge with
the system.

this time. I shall report the conven
