The theory was advanced by these

DANGER LURKS IN HILLS
___
The Bijou Theater is presenting > ’
today, J. P. McGowan in what is
_laituecl to be his greatest and most*
thrilling Western melodrama. “The |
John Hj ,j| B. of Clymer hissing is Men." laid in Its the story border by j j
and land of the Southwest, where .
a powerful and dangerous castle man hidden lives j
in luxury in a walled
in the hills. He gathered a large:
army of men—desperadoes, criminals ,
and adventurers—and plotted a revo¬
lution.
Some of the thrills in “The Hills [
of Missing Men" are the escape of
.McGowan from the Rangers. He
jumps from a window and dashes
away on horse, hurdling ail obstacles
and leaping a wide, yawning chasm
A troop of cavalry does « W.
and speC tacular riding and fighting.
McGowan rescues a girl in a srusu¬
ing fight on the stairs. These are cn:;
some of the more spectacular thrills
'or the story itself is replete through¬
out with tense situations.
GEORGIA ONLY STATE
SENDING TWO GOVERNORS
TO COMING CONFERENCE
Atlanta, May 18.—Georgia will be
the only state in "the union with two
representatives at the forthcoming
onference of governors in Washing
on, if President Harding complies
•ith a request sent him Thursday
>y Governor Hardwick. The request
.vas that Governor-elect Clifford
Walker be extended invitation to J
an :
oe present.
The conference is to discuss nation¬
al enforcement of the prohibition j
;a\vs, and Governor Hardwick believes
Governor-elect Walker should be
present, as he is soon to take over the
aw enforcement machinery of Geor¬
gia. This fact was pointed out in the
etter to the president.
“Georgia is the only state in the
union that changes its governor in
.he middle of the year, and this fact
doubtless was overlooked by Presi¬
dent Harding in sending out his in- i
citations to the conference," Governor
Hardwick said. “Under the circum¬
stances Georgia should be enftitled
.o two representatives at the eonfer
ince' and I am sure the president will j
-ee it that way.”
The date.of the conference is not'
mown to Governor Hardwick. He!
asked for that information in order .
-hat he might arrange a contemplat- :
ed eastern trip to coincide with the i
■'ate of the conference.
GA. HUMANE SOCIETY
WILL SEEK TO PREVENT
ATLANTA BULL FIGHT
Atlanta, May 18.—If the Georgia
Humane Society can stop it, there will
be no bull light pulled off in Atlanta
duiing the Elks national convention j
'his summer. Ever since the story j
leaked out several days ago that plans :
were making for" a big bull light as ,
one of the drawing* cards, there has
been a loud howl of protest from ,
many quarters, the latest being from
idle Humane Society. It started tirst
In the pulpit of the Tabernacle Bap¬
tist church when Dr. J. W. Ham jump- :
cd all over the proposition. j
Then came the explanation that the
bull wouldn’t actually be killed, that j
the exhibition would be more on tne ;
mfer of “bull dodging.”
Today Governor Hardwick received ,
i set of resolutions adopted by the
Georgia Humane Society, of which I’.
E. White is president, and Mrs. W. D.
I'oLten is secretary, 'protesting i
against cither a bull fight, any inula- j
tion of one or any “bull dodging,” and ;
ailing on the authorities to proven: j
n. The society holds it will const'- :
tute torture to the animals and will
be “debasing ar-I demoralizing to the
community.”
