London, May 28.—Half the mis

ieclared Dr. Josiah Oldfield, the emi¬

mthor: in a recent London address.
In spite of countless ages of experi¬
ence, the doctor added, women had
'ailed to excel even in cooking, yet
hey set up as competitors of men
n all walks of life. “Far more homes
ire made miserable by envious wi>

irutal men.”
“Women,” continued Dr. Oldfield,
have been ‘tinklers’ on the mandolin
rid piano through all the ages, but
t is among men that the creative
msicians are founud.” In the sphere
if art also, Dr. Oldfield said that
lthough women had been busy paint

me sought paintings which would
reate emotions of the highest and

o go to paintings done by men.
“Women are initiative and not erg
