Washington, May 28.-—In an en
deavor to find a satisfactory basis
for regulations to carry out the new
cotton standards act which become;
effective on August 1, Secretary Wal
lace, of the department of agricul
ture, conferred today with a group o;
cotton men.
The public hearing conducted dur¬
ing last month in the south developed
widespread approval of the new act

A. J. GORDON GIVES
FORCE AN OUTING
POPULAR MERCHANT AND HIS
SELLING STAFF ENJOY DAY
AT CRISPEN ISLAND
(Ry One of the Force)
On last Sunday, our merchant
irince, A. J. Gordon, gave his sales
orce a days outing. And all that is
needed to say. It was done in A. J’s.
way.
A gala day; a day of recreatibn; a
day in which each and every one
was made to forget the fatigue, the
cares and the routine of every-day
,fe, and enjoy the abundance of luxu¬
ries which lie had so richly and freely
provided for this occasion.
It is not A. J’s. way to follow cus¬
toms; to await a precedent, .or to
imitate the example set by others,
but he decides what to do, when to
do it, and in his own unique way of
doing things he puts it over.
He decided his sales force were en¬
titled to a days recreation, and each
or all of. them will bear witness, h<
paid bis obligation in full.
At ten o’clock a. m. all met at his
big store where automobiles were
in waiting in which they were car¬
ded to a beautiful grove on the
at the rear of the Picric
Acid Plant. A prettier location for a
days outing o-r a picnic dould not
have been selected.
(At noon a table about firty feet
long was laden down with edibles,
in quantity and variety, choice
enough to have satisfied the taste
and desire of a king. Fried chicken,
chicken, liam, sausage, salads,
pickles, ice cream, hot coffee
and cold drinks, besides many other
delicacies.
The host and his most estimable
wife took the crowd (forty-one) in
,
hand and everything was done and
provided which itteuld have added to
the happiness of the occasion, and
the entire day not a thing was
or said which would tend to mar
he pleasure or ruffle the feeling o1
lone. ?
It was A. J’s. day put over in A.
way.
MILLER MAY
TAKE OVER FAST
WAS MANAGER OF BRUNSWICK
CLUB LAST YEAR AND
MADE GOOD
There is a. strong probability that
Edo Miller, well known former man¬
ager of last season’s Brunswick base¬
ball team, will take -over the Bruns¬
wick Riflemen Club and place the
players on a part salary basis. Mr.
Miller managed the old team to
satisfaction of all and will icertainly
do this again.
Manager Mitchell, whom all the
^ demon¬
players are "stuck on” has
strated the fact, that he can organize
a winning team but the fact that he
Is always busy a t his cafe has caused
him to desire (he club under another
manager. In case Mr. Miller does
take it over something like $1000, will
be raised so as to put on a solid
financial basis. Just what will he
done in the matter will be made
known within the next dap or twlo.
