GARDEN SETS OF EXOTIC
CHARM IN -THE MARRIAGE
MAKER” AT THE BIJOU
One of the largest exterior sets ever
constructed inside a studio was used
at Paramount's West Coast plant at
Hollywood, California, for scenes in
William de Miile's Paramount pro
ojetion of 'The Marriage Maker.”
which will be shown a: the Bijou the-'
atre today.
An exact reproduction of a famous
Italian garden in Rome, Italy, this set
occupied an acre of floor space. Fif
teen thousand square feet of grass
were transplanted from fields near
Hollywood, while hundreds of shrubs
rooted and actually growing as
the cameras registered the scenes.
A fish pond, with seventy-five gold
fish, is in the center of the garden,
while two costly statues and a foun¬
tain preserve the likeness of the orig¬
inal in Rome. Concrete bannisters
with several tall columns ami a broad
garden walk, constructed by a force
of fifteen workmen ami utilizing more
than thirty tons of concrete, are but
partial examples of the labor that
went into the construction' of the big
set.

AIR SERVICE WILL
LINK U. S. AND HAWAII
SAYS GEN. MITCHELL
Honolulu, Dec. 13 tJP )—Regular air¬
plane service between Hawaii and the
United States requiring twenty hours :
should replace within five years the:
steams tip service of five to
rays, according to Brigadier General
'.v iliiam Mitchell, assistant chief of
tiie army air service, who was here
recently on a tour of inspection.
This service for mail and passen¬
gers, he said, was possible with the
type of plane now being constructed
or pi caned by th • United States, the
present type, he said, includes a plane
with a flying radius of 3.000 miles
with eight or ten engines operating a
single propeller.
“Hawaii now possesses the most
powerful and most important air
vice in the Pacific, and the govern
ment is awake to the needs of greater
development here,” he said. “In time
the aviation forces will be strength
ened in order to make Hawaii a
strong defensive arm of the United
States in the Pacific.”
The islands, he added, form a fer¬
tile field for commercial aviation, and
there is no reason why regular mail
and passenger service among the isl¬
ands should not be developed immedi¬
ately.

Mentho-Sulphur heals eczema right
