FALSE ALARM CALLED
FIREMEN TO COCHRAN AVENUE
A negro, seeing a blaze issuing
from a chimney of a house occupied
by a colored family at the corner of
Cochran avenue and London street,
yesterday afternoon at 5:30 o’clock,
rushed into a nearby store and re¬
quested that the fire department be
called. This was done and the firemen
were soon on the scene. But there
was no fire. It was explained by the
occupants of the house that kerosene
was poured in the fire place to start
a fire and the flames burst out of the
chimney for a minute.
REV. C. G. WILEY WAS THE
PRINCIPAL SPEAKER TUESDAY
In the account of the Emancipa¬
tion Proclamation celebration Tues¬
day by the colored citizens of Bruns¬
wick, The News was misinformed as
to the principal speaker of the occa¬
sion. It was not G. W. Alford, as re¬
ported, but Rev. C. G. Wiley, presi¬
dent of the Georgia State College,
Savannah, who delivered the oration.
The program was one of the most
elaborate ever undertaken on a simi¬
lar occasion in Brunswick. The cere¬
monies were held at Shiloh Baptist
chuich, under the direction of Rev.
B. F. Seabrooks. R. W. Burroughs
was marshal of the day.

Acid.
Rheumatism is easier to avoid than
to cure, states a well-known authority.
We are advised to dress warmly, keep
the feet dry, avoid exposure, and
above all, drink plenty of good water
and avoid eating sweets of all kind.
Rheumatism is caused by body
waste and acids resulting from food
fermentation. It is the function of
the kidneys to filter this poison from
the blood and cast it out in the urine;
the pores of the skin are also a means
of freeing the blood of this impurity.
In damp and chilly cold weather the
skin pores are closed, double thus forcing
the kidneys to do work; they
become weak and- sluggish and fail to
eliminate this waste and acids, which
keeps accumulating and circulating
through the system, eventually settling stiff¬
in the joints and muscles, causing
ness, soreness and pain, called rheuma¬
tism.
At the first twinge of rheumatism
get from any pharmacy about four
ounces of Jad Salts; put a tablespoon¬
ful in a glass of water and drink be¬
fore breakfast each morning for a week.
This is helpful to neutralize acidity,
remove waste matter, also to stimulate
the kidneys, thus often ridding the blood
of rheumatic poison. and is made
Jad Salts is inexpensive, and^lemon

juice, combined with lithia, and ts used
with excellent results by thousands of
folks who are subject to rheumatism.
