West Clan Sees Triumph
In Byrd’s Antarctic Trip
Washington, March T.—Another tri¬
umph for the West family is seen by
Mrs. Edward C. Stone, Washington
tcnealojrist, in the Antarctic expedi¬
tion of Commander Byrd.
Byrd, says Mrs. Stone, is claimed
as one of the most distinguished West
descendants. She has gone back into
the ancient records of the Wests, she
herself bring a descendant of the line,
and found that noted men are thick
on the branches of the family tree.
Roy Owen West, Chicago lawyer
and former secretary of the interior,
is another descendant. Senator Wil¬
liam E. Borah, .lames Edward West,
executive head of the Boy Scouts of
America; Bina M. West, prominent in
national Republican politics; Charles
If.. West, authority on Mississippi
flood control and prevention; Judge
Du Val West, of Texas, who was
president Wilson’s personal represen¬
tative in Mexico, in 1915, are others.

Lieutenant Robert E. Selff, station¬

a fire of sagebrush.
The flier started walking and that
night reached the edge of a “canyon”
