Does the resignation of our coroner
iean that there are to be no killings
in Lincoln during the next two
rears?
All the officers recently elected in
bis county are good men and we
>elieve will give a good account of
hcmselves. They should be given a
air trial at any rote.

Wheat Culture in Georgia.
An exchange very pertinently says:
‘‘Our Southern farmers have come
to where they must find some other
product of the soil and make it the
money product as cotton has hereto¬
fore been, and it seems that the
planting of wheat is the happy so¬
lution to the problem.
“For the past year or so much
wheat has been grown in this section,
but that interest has not teen taken
in it as it should be on account of
the inconvenience of having it milled,
but you let enough of it be planted
to warrant the'building of mills,
and then yob will see mills going up
on the streams in the country. The
large- creeks afford sufficient power
■ to bolt all the wheat made in a good
many comities.
“G. W. Truitt, one of the largest
cotton planters in Troup county,
says in a recent interview that the
farmers of his county are going to
plant their land in grain this winter
and will let cotton severely alone.
Mr. Truitt says that with the money
the farmeia of Troup use to buy
guano, mules, rations for planting
cotton, they intend to buy spot
cotton and hold it till the price
goes up. In this way he thinks they
can make money on cotton without
going to the expense of raising it
without realizing anything on it.
“Georgia farmers should learn a
lesson from Mr. Truitt’s experience,
stop borrowing in the spring, money
for provisions, go to raising food
product crops, plant plenty of grain,
stick to it and all will be well.
A Card From Mr. Cartledge.
To the Editor of the Hoke Journal:
Please allow me through your
paper to extend thanks to the many
friends who in the recent election
gave me their support for the office
of clerk and treasurer. I shall ever
hold them in grateful and lasting
remembrance, and promise in the
future, as I have endeavored to do in
the past, to impartially perform the
duties of the office to the best of my
ability. Respectfully, J. Cartledge.

Mr. Reese Resigns.
To the Editor of the lloxz Journal:
Ar it has been saitl that I took a
large interest in the last split of our
party (or the new ticket rather) for
the purpose of getting an office my¬
self I would like forthe people of
Lincoln county to know that I am
not that hungry for a job. If I
wanted an office I would try to get a
larger one than the coroner’s office
in Lincoln. I did not put my name
iu nomination nor did I authorize
anyone to use it; it was ptitin over
my protest. I did not want it nor
any other office in the county, but I
do want to have some Bay so about
who shall be our county officers
sometimes, at least.
Now, gentlemen, you have judged
one man wrong, so after thanking compli¬
my many friends for their
ments, I hereby resign my election
to the coroner’s office.
Yours truly, J. M. Reese.
