An Invitation.
The following letter was received
by Prof. Stephenson from Prof. T. E.
Hollingsworth, of the Washington
Public Schools, and it is self-ex pi a*
natorv. Our own school is to have
a speaking contest at the closing of
the term when the pupils will con¬
test for a gold medal and the two
best speakers on this occasion will be
chosen to represent the Lincolnton
school in the Washington contest.
Prof. Stephenson,
Lincolnton, Ga.,
Dear Sir: I am asking the leading
schools in this county mid adjoining
count! ’S to join us in a contest in el¬
ocution here on the 18th of June.
My proposition is to offer declamation two gold
medals, one fur the best
among t he boys and one for the best
recitation made by the girls, each
school to select one boy and one girl,
between 12 and 16, who are in at¬
tendance this term.
Yours truly,
T. E. Hollingsworth.
Almost ;i Serious Accident.
The following term from the
Campbell county news will be of
interest to most of our readers as
Rev. IJ. F. Branham is well known
to our people, he having been pastor
in charge of the Lincolnton circuit
at one time.
We see that Rev. II. F. Branham
came near having a serious accident
by bis horse running away with him
—becoming frightened at a switch¬
ing train. Mr. Branham was con¬
siderably bruised, but not hurt
enough to keep him from his up
pointnleut. We hope lie will soon
recover.
