Wheeler County Eagle
VOLUrtE i
Contest Closed
With Success.
The Contest Came to a Very Successful
Close Tuesday, The Eagle Has
Good Circulation.
The Eagle’s popularity contest, con
ducted here for the past seven weeks,
under the management of the United
Advertising Company, came to a close
Tuesday. To say the least, it was a
success. The contest was pulled off
during the dullest season of the year,
but notwithstanding all of this it did
good business.
The circulation of the paper has been
increased to a great extent and now
has a circulation covering the county
and reaching oui. into adjoining counties.
The contest has been pleasant. The
young ladies, Misses Etna Braswell,
Mattie Grimes and Eliza Clark, the
leading contestants, proved themselves
equal to the task, and who are due the
credit for the great success that this
contest enjoyed. The Eagle feels that
it is under lasting obligations to these
young ladies for their untiring efforts,
not only to win the piano, but to pro
mote the Wheeler County Eagle.
Tney deserve the credit for this work
and will ever have our support and
best wishes in their efforts through life.
Unfortunately, however, the winner
of the piano has not been definitely
been settled, though it is hoped that
before another issue a satisfactory
agreement may be reached and that ail
concerned will feel proud and rejoice
over the victory of the one that has
won this prize.

Big Day Was Satur
day at Spring Hill.
Last Saturday was a great day for
Spring Hill. The school came to a
close on Friday and all joined in a pic
nic on Saturday. Everything that
goes to make a successful picnic was
pulled off. Several prominent speak
ers were on hand and delivered ad
dresses that entertained and instructed.
A game of ball between Towns and
Jacksonville provad to be an interest
ing feature of the day’s program. The
score stood five to seven in favor of
Towns. The dinner was head and
shoulders above anything. The ladies
in that community know how to cook
and what to cook and on this occasion
did credit to former efforts. Every
body enjoyed themselves to the limit.

In Memory.
On last Tuesday afternoon the death
angel visited the home of the Tompkins
children and carried away their sweet
mother. She had only been sick a few
days when the Lord decided she had
suffered long enough, and took her
home to Heaven to live with Him.
All that loving hands and tender care
was of no avail. She suffered, that no
tongue can tell, no pen can describe.
She leaves behind to mourn for her a
husband, five children and a host of
friends and relatives.
The Angel of death has plucked from
our midst a flower sweet and rare, one
we loved and cherished. Little did we
know that our friend would so soon
pass away, but she left us sad and
lonely. We laid her to rest in the lone
ly grave, folded close in death’s em
brace. No more will that home be
brightened by that mother’s smiling
face. We can meet her on that bright
and happy shore, and clasp her in our
arms, where parting is no more. The
golden gates were opened wide, a gentle
voice said come, and angels on the oth
er side welcomed their mother home.
Weep not for her: she is not dead, but
sleeping. As she is you must be. Pre
pare for death and follow her. Her
toils are over, her race is run.
