The True Facta Known.
In justice to ourselves and to the
public at large, we are frank to ad
mit that we are no mind reader, bnt
claim to have a pretty strong suspicion
of things we actually see. In a recent
issue of the Glenwood Sentinel appear
ed an article on the front page, and
Iron its appearance, would convey the
impression that it was written by the
editor of said paper. However, we have
been called to taw in referring to it.
We are frank to admit that we could
notgay, with any degree of certainty,
that the said editor is the author
of the article, neither do we care,
but dont feel that the reference made
to said article calls for an apology from
us, neither are we offering any. The
undue emphasis placed upon the so
called “unwarranted arraignment’'does
not explain wherein the Sentinel does
not shoulder the responsibility of the
communication referred to, in the face
of the statement that “the editor is re
sponsible for his editorials, and has
been an active newspaper man for
many years, etc.”—the article did not
have the “frills” that characterise con
tributions that this one is claimed to
have been. We contend, and leaving it to
the thinking pnblic to decide that views
published, though contributed by some
one else, without being so indicated,
falls on the shoulders of the paper that
uses such communications. It is not
reasonable enough to even suppose that
the Sentinel would have been singled
out to be accused instead of a corres
pondent, by the Eagle. Where does
the advantage come in? We fail to see.
An explanation would be appreciated,
as well as amusing. The Eagle has
nothing against the Sentinel, neither
its editor, but had to start at the only
visible source to find the real origin—
and now we have it, it was simply the
opinion of a correspondent, that says
the Eagle manufactured it all and is the
only source from whence the trouble
arose. To such correspondent, we
know not who, we would refer him to
our explanation in article referred to
and believe he can see at once that the
Eagle has not been an agitator of con
fusion, but rather a peace-maker.
Perhaps had we given our article a
head hke this, “The Contributor’s
Views” it would have hit the key nate.
The fact conclusive, in our opinion, is
there is no difference between “only
source” and "the source." The read
ers can judge for themselves rather
than have the editor of the Sentined
pass upon the intelligence or truthful
ness of the article.
