To Whcelrr Tax Collector
The following letter received by Tax
Collector Martin, from the Comptroller
General.
I am advised by the Governor and
State Treasurer that the state is in
urgent need of funds with which to
meet hoavy drafts on the treasury
which will be made between now and
, the first of January. It will therefore
be necessary for you to press collec
tions as rapidly as possible. The law
requires that all taxes due the state be
paid by th: 23th of December of each
year. Explain this to the tax payers
of yor county and urge that they make
prompt settlement of their taxes, welch
you will please remit without waiting
for the first Monday in January, in
order that the treasurer may be able
to meet all demands as they mature.

IN ORDIMRrS COURT
Monday was ordinary's court day, j
and considerable business was trans- ■
acted. Among the cases that came up
before the ordinary, was the one of J
Mrs. Austen Gibbs, charging her hus- i
band with lunacy. The warrant was '
issued and Mr. Gibbs is in the custody
of the sheriff, and will be held until
the eleventh of this month, when he
will be tried before a jury and his
mental condition investigated.
His wife claims that since an attack
of typhoid fever his mind has been as
fected, and that he has treated her
very cruelly, and that on one occasion
he threotened her life. She says that
she is afraid of him and willing for
him to be sent to the asylum, hoping
that he may be restored to his-health.
Mr. Gibbs has beed a hard working
man and the case is a pathetic one.
