April First Date Set |
For Wheeler Primary l
Persuant tea call from Dr. J-
A. Rivers, chairman of the
Wheeler.county Executive com
mittee, a mass meeting was held
here last Monday in the court
house during the noon hour of
superior court. The meeting
was called to order by the chair
man, and various matters dis
cussed, among them being the
best system to hold the primary
which resulted in quite a lively
debate, Some of them favored
the system bv which the candi
date received a plurality of the
votes, where there were more
than two candidates in the race,
should be declared the nominee,
but if no one received a plurality
that the two highest make the
race in the state primary and
thereby give the people an op
portunity of saying who they
preferred. The matter was post
poned until Wednesday, when it
was agreed to adopt the majority
plan, and where two or more
candidates are competing for an
office, the one receiving a major
, ity over his closest opponent will
be declared the nominee.
A new Committee was named,
one from each of the six districts
of the county, with Win, Henry
Clark as chairman. Those that
represent the districts are as
follows: Alamo J. L. Hightower,
Erick W. H. Brown, McArthur
B. R. Benton, Spring Hill L. H.
Ryals, Glenwood S. F. Reynolds,
Landsburg Bennett Frost The
date was set for the primary on

Now that the date for the

tend entering the race will likely
do so at once for no time could
be lost now, if a general line of
campaigning is to be gone into’
It is a little peculiar, yet it is
true, that not a man has signified
a willingness to serve the county
as coroner or surveyor. Both
of these offices are very import
ant and it now looks as if no one
will have them, Mr. J. J. Con
nor, the present coronen has
had the matter under consider
ation, but has not made formal
announcement, and thereby
leaves a vacancy that certainly
ought to be filled.
The following rerolutiong wereadopt
by the Executive Committee gevern
ing the primary;
Resolved that election managers be
sworn not to give out any information
regarding the ballot until after 6:30
p. m., the day of the election.
That no information be given to any
one as to the probable strength of any

tickets be begun until after polls are
That if any candidate is found to

nomini e
That the Australian Ballot system
be observed as near as possible with
the facilities we have in conducting
the voting in this primary.
That the registration books be closed
on March 20th, as far as the registrars

That all candidates shall pay in their
assesaments on o r before March 20th,
to J. L Hightower, Clerk and & Treas
