Sears Entertain.
One of the social events of the
week was the progressive Rook
party given bv Mr, and Mrs. H.
L Sears at their lovely home on
Sears street. Hyacinths in the
pale shades of pink and lavender
were used in combination with
the deeper purple of violets, for
ornamenting the living room and
library, where the games were
played.
The guests were met at the
door by Mrs. Sears and Miss
Adams, and ushered to the
parlor. The hostess was very
.becomingly gowned in a hand
some black net dress. The
honor guest was lovely in a dress
of pink satin-
At a late hour punch and cake
was served by M rs. Graham and
Miss Jennie Browning.
Those enjoying Mr. and Mrs.
Sears’ hospitality were: Misses
Anzie Edelle and Alma Lou
Browning, Fannie McMillan,
Valila Adams, Jennie Browning,
Claudie Bailey and Mrs. Nor
man Graham. Messrs. William
and Jesse Bright, Otis Martin,

At a called meeting of the
Board of Education of A 'amo on
last Tuesday evening, the plans
and specifications of Mr. W. W.
Simmons were accepted, and
notice ordered run advertising
for bids, for the construction of
same. Elsewhere in this issue
will be found the advertisement.
It will be advertised for thirty
days and on the. 27th of April
the contract will be let, and it
wont be but, a short time before
actual work will begin. Alamo
will then have as nice school
building as can be found in this
section, and one that we will all
feel proud of

Candidates Making Last
Appeal to the Veters.
Next Tuesday night will wind
up county politics in Wheeler for
the time being. The polls will
open on Wednesday morning and
the ballots will rain until the
poles close in the evening. Each
County office, with the exception
of coroner and surveyor, is con
tested for. Mr. J- D. Brown,
clerk of superior court, has two
opponents, Messrs. H. L. Sears
and Jas. T. Geiger. Mr. J. F.
Wright, sheriff, is opposed by
Messrs. J. W. Mcßride and B.
H. A. Brantley. Mr. J, A
■Martin, tax collector, has one
opponent, Mr. J. F. McDaniel.
Mr. W- T Hadden, tax receiver
is opposed by Messrs. S. L-
Brett and T. F. Williams. Treas
urer, Mr. Daniel Pope, is oppos
ed by.Judge L. M. D. Nobles.
Mr. J. F. Sikes, whose term ex
pires as county commissioner, is
opposed by Mr. B. R. Benton-
Alamo and McArthur districts
compose the first commissioners
district., whose time it is to elect
a commissioner, and only those
Jiving in said districts will be al
lowed to vote lor samethis time.
Tickets haw been printed and
sent out with the above names
on them, while the tickets for
the remaining districts of the
county will not vote for a com
missioner, and consequently the
tickets prepared for them will
not have the name of the com
missioner on them.
The campaign, while it has
grown interesting, has been verv
harmonious among all the candi
dates They all take the situation
good naturedly, and ,in the wind
up they can all shake hands as
though nothing had ever hap
pened The primary, when a
representative will be nominated,
does not comeoff until the latter
part of summer, when state
house officers are elected. Only
two have, announced so far,
Messrs. Jerry Johnson and Dr.
M. Morrison, both good men and
both have a strong following in
the county,
Special Notice.
Commencing April the Ist, 1914, 1
will not charge ice to anyone, I have
punch checks for SI.OO, $2.00, $3.00,
$4.00 and $5.00, also tickets good for
one hundred pounds of ice, and tickets
uood for five and ten cents worth of
ice. Please do not ask me to charge

gomery county, the portion that
now'composes Wheeler, and they

Col. Clements’ ability asa lawyer
is recognized over the state and
he has tilled many public offices
with credit to himself and to the
people he served. For several I
years he was judge of the city!
court of Eastman, and also served |
several terms as mayor of that ‘
city, and in both of these posi- t
lions he made an enviable official !

Death of Mrs. Fields,.
Mrs. Louisa Fields died at the
home of her son, Ex-Sheriff T.
A. Fields, in this city very sud
denly Monday night. She had
been able to be up and at the
supper table in the aliernot n.
her general health, though, bad
(been unfavorable for some time,
I Her age is 84.
The interment took place Wi d
• nesday afternoon at the Fields’
jcemetery near Blundale. She
was the wife of Eld. James
Fields who preceded her in
death about 23 years.
