Floral Auto Parade to i
Make Savannah Gayj
Savannah, Ga., March 23, 1914—A [
floral auto parade, the first ever held '
in South Georgia, and in all iikelihocd I
the first ever held in Georgia, will be ,
one of the features of the festivities <
accompanying the meeting of the j
National Drainage Congress at Savr- [
nah, April 22-25.
Liberal prizes will be offered for the «
most attractively decorated automo ?
bile or float. Many entries have al- ’
ready been made from Savannah autc- |
mobilists and from the inquiries re
ceived it is apparent that many other J
Georgia towns will have represent!- 4
iives competing tor the honors of the »
occasion. Paper flowers, as well as .
the natural ones, will be lavishly ased
for decorations. Out of town autoists ,
can make up their ^designs at home, I
bring tho decorations with thtm on '
the trip to Savanrah, and adjust them
on the morning of the parade The
Judges will prebably be the Governors
of Georgia and adjacent States. Many
of the Chief Executives of Southern
Stales are expected to attend the Con
gress and from among them the
judges will be chosen.
The latter part of April is the ideal
time of the year in Georgia’s chief
seaport. The weather then rivals the (
be«t that Halls or Califoraia offer at <
any season of the year. The schedule (
to Tyhee Island, Georgia’s noted sea- <
side resort, is favorable for those who <
wish to enjoy o few hours in the brae- j
ing atmosphere of the ocean and visit
Fort Screven, one of Uncle Sam’s I
most powerful defences against in
vasion. Fishing in the near-by waters
will be at its prime, boating invites
those who love the sport, and two hun
dred miles of the South’s finest shaded
highways entice the autoist and motor
cyclist.
Men'of prominence in public life
and business affairs will gather for
the Congress. From Europe wiii
come several engineeis of note,
among them Sir William Willcocks,
whose work in the construction of the
great Assouan Dam across the Nile,
in Egypt, the world’s most collossal
woric of that nature, has won him
international fame. The importance
of drainage is becoming mor. appar
ent from day to day, especially in
Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas,
with their great low, unreclaimed
areas, susceptible of vast agricultural
possibilities. The Congress will be
productive of a wonderful stimulus
in that direction.
All the railroads have recognized
I the greatness of of tho Congress by
(granting a three cent rate f.r the
| round trip from all points south of the
Ohio and east of the Mississippi, or
the entire southeast section of the
■ country, tickets going on sale April 20
j for three days, and good io return
until April 30. permitting visitors to
spend a week or more in Savannah.
The municipality of Savannah will
entertain the delegates in various
ways and the city will wear a gala air
