“ OUR BANK IS YOUR BANK ”
Mr. W. Berman Entertains.
One of the prettiest of the
parties given this week, was the
bridge luncheon at which Mr.
W. Berman entertained on
Thursday evening at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Hurwitz,
on railroad avenue. This home
is one of the handsomest of the
many handsome Alamo homes,
and really needs no decoration.
However, on this occasion the
whole lower floor, which was
thrown open to the guests, was
most artistically deeorated in
boughs of pear blossoms and
little sprigs of white cherry blos
soms with here and there a pot
of fragrant hyacinths.
At a late hour cake and cream
was served by Mrs. Hurwitz and
Miss Jennie Browning.
The invited guests were:
Misses Valila Adams, Anza
Edelle and Alma Lou Browning,
Emma Tomlinson, Fannie and
Maud McMillan, Claudie Bailey
Jennie Browning, and Mrs'
Ellen McDaniel. Messrs Brant-’
ley Sikes, William and Jessie
Bright, Mack Auld. J, O.Bailey,
Otis Martin, Julian Hattaway,
Make McDaniel, C S. Browning.
Walter Dean and Mr. McDaniel.

Junior Order Held Bally At
Glenwood Monday I veninq
On last Monday night the
Glenwood lodge Junior Order
Master Mechanics, at their meet
ing, extended an invitation to
neighboring lodges to meet with
them, when several of the boys
from the Alamo lodge took ad
vantage of the opportunity. The
boys were treated to a fish and
oyster supper, besides other
entertainment, charasteristic of
the order. Several candidates
were received and initiated. The
Alamo boys came bacn feeling
that they had been well enter
tained, besides learned more
about the workings of the order,
and in fact are in better position
to make good members, and
learned something that will be
of values to the lodge here.
For Congress, •
Eastman, Ga , March 21, 1914
To the voters of the Twelfth Con
gressional District of Georgia:
I beg to announce that I am a
candidate for Congress from
this District, subject to the
Democratic primary.
Respectfully,
WALTER M. CLEMENTS.
ALAMO, GEORGIA. FRIDAY APRIL 3, [914.
Wednesday’s Primary
Passes Off Quietly.
The ideal weather brought out
a large vote in Wednesday’s pri
mary, and the large vote cast in
the Alamo district, kept the can
didates guessing until a late
hour, when all the votes had
been counted and the vote of
each candidate announced. All
of the country precincts had
been heard from almost before
the count was begun here, and
the fate of a good many of the
candidates depended on the re
sult of the votes polled here.
The vote was unusually close in
some of the races, especially in
that of the tax collector, where
eight votes determined the win
ner, with only two candidates in
the race. The next closest race
was that for clerk, where a ma
jority of only 37 votes decided
the winner. In the tax receiver's
race was won by only 64 votes.
A majority of the old officers
were re-elected, as follows:
Sheriff, J. F. Wright: tax re
ceiver, W. T. Hadden; treasurer,
Daniel Pope; commissioner, J.
F. Sikes. The new' officers are;
Clerk, Jas. T. Geiger; tax collec-

Prepare For War
You have no doubt heard the old adage, ‘‘Pre

two governments, but we do refer to something
equally as disastrous, and that is the FLY.

While neither district voted its
entire registered vote, consider

big vote.
Politics in Wheeler will not
end with this however, as we al

with the race between Congress
man Dudley M. Hughes and
Judge Walter M. Clements for
congress will not be slow, and
the end of politics is not near in
sight yet. The primary for the
election of these officers will not
come off until next August and
until that time we will continue
to receive the friendly hand
shake from the candidates.

each candidate by districts:
