, It is rumored on good author
ity that the friends of Mr. J. D.
Brown are urging him to enter
the race for representative in
the coming primary. Mr. Brown
would make Wheeler a good

decide to again enter politics,

TO THE PEOPLE OF
WHEELER COUNTY:
I wish to thank you most sin
cerely for the very high compli
ment you paid me last Wednes
day. lam not a man of words
and have a poor way of express
ing myself at best, but when you,
smother me with kindness, as
you did in the primary by voting
for me and thereby expressing
your confidence in me as your
Sheriff, lam at a loss to know
how to thank you. I wish I could
see each one of you in peison and
take you by the hand and let you
know really what my heart feels,
and I will do so sooner or later.
Suffice it to say that I do most
heartily appreciate your voting
for me, and I have nothing but
the best feeling for those who
voted against me, I am more
determined than ever to serve
you faithfully, fairly and impar
tially, and to make the office of
Sheriff of Wheeler County as
well filled as any in the State of
Georgia. Again thanking you, I
am respectfully, your servant,
J. F. Wright.
Mr. J. S. Sims presented the
Eagle this week with a speci
men of his spring cabbage, of
which he has grown several
thousand head. Ele has them of
different ages, and the older ones
are very fine, being headed well
for the season. He is now sup
plying the local market with
them and the demand is all that
eould be expected, for they fill
in before the other vegetables
are ready for use. Mr. Sims is
quite a large planter of truck,
besides he plants cotton and
corn. The prospects are bright
for a good yield of the variety of
truck that he plants.
A head onfcollision was caused
one day this week, when a west
bound freight train that was
standing on the track, which had
been left on the curve, near the
depot. When the engin struck
the cab it knocked the flat car
off the track, and the fact that
the material in it was rotten, it
broke in two and tumbled down
a steep embankment. The cal)
was only slightly damaged, as it
was steel lined and was equal to
the jar.
Col. W. W. Larson of Dublin,
who for sometime has been a
probable candidate for Congress
to succeed Hon. Dudley M.
Hughes, has definitely concltffled
that he will not be in the race.
It looks as though Congressman
Hughes will haveJudgeClements
as his only opponent.

Wheeler tounty Singing
Convention at Long Branch.
Last Sunday was a big day at
Long Branch. The convention
was held there, which had been •
advertised for sometime, and
everybody in reach availed them
selves of the opportunity of at
tending, and it was well wo”th
the time spent, as the singers
had gathered from all over the I
county, while there were some
there from other counties, in
cluding Dodge, so famous for
their good singers, Wheeler
county can boast of the best
vocal talent to be found any
where and on this occason they
seemed to be at their very best.
The melodious strains of the
organ, rendered by their mpst
talented musicians, gave the
trained voices extra advantage
and the large audience was held
almost speechless while they
were singing. At the close of
the Convention invitations were
extended, asking them to meet
at various places in the county,
but as Erick sent up a very
strong delegation for the next
convention, they won out, and
on the fifth Sunday in May Erick
will entertain them, and it goes
without saying they will do them
selves proudon this occasion.
Dinner was served on the
ground as usual, and everybody
was welcomed to partake of the
good eatables. A similar pro
gram will be rendered at Erick
on the fifth Sunday in May.
