Judge R. B. G- Walters of
Erick, was a visitor to Alamo
Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Jackson
and children were visitors to
Dublin Sunday. Mrs. Jackson
and children will visit relatives
at Rentz before returning home.
Miss Rosa Harvil, who has
been holding a responsible posi
tion with Idelson Department
Store, left Tuesday for her homo
in Irvington.
M& Elliot, who has been con
fined with a case of mumps at
his home in Mt. Vernon, has re
turned to Alamo and resumed
work on the artesian well.
On account of the meeting of
State School Officials, Associa
tion in St. Marys on May 4-6,
the Wheeler County Board of
Education will not meet until
Wednesday, May 13th.
Messrs. J. E. Floyd, I. F.
Parkerson, N. G. Floyd and Dr.
B F. Watkins formed a party
of automobilist, and drove over
to Alamo Wednesday from Plain
field. They had heard so much
about progressive Alamo they
decided to come over and seo for
themselves. They were favor
ably impressed, however, and
will probably investigate further
and take stock in some of our
enterprises

Wheeler County Bank.
Mrs-Emma Godbee, who shot
and killed her husband, Judge
Godbee and his second wife in
Millen last August, has been re
fused new trial by supreme
court, and she must serve her
life sentence in the penitentiary.
After making Alamo their
home for the past several
months, Mrs. Jessie Rogers and
daughter Mrs. Nettie Ayers re
turned to their home in Wallas
ton, Massachusetts Sunday.
They were accompanied by Miss
Hannah Bright, who will spend
the Summer with them.
Mr. J. R. Swain received a
telegram Tuesday apprising him
of the death of his brother, Mr.
Jas. D. Swain at Ft. Meade,
Fla. He moved from Tattnall
county the first of the year and
engaged in the hotel business
and was Mr. Swains only
brother. He was buried in
Florida with Masonic honors, he
being a member of the Reids
ville lodge. Sympathy of the
entire community is extended
to Mr. Swain in the death of
his brother.

Atlanta, April 12. —Governor
Slaton’s warrant for $282,125
was drawn yesterday on re
quisition of the pension depart
ment.
This sura represents the
balance due pensioners in forty
counties not paid in the two
previous payments.
The money will be sent out in
checks to the several counties
next week.

Auction Briihis Club
Mr. William Bright entertain
ed the Auction Bridge Club Mon
day evening. The whole lower
floor was thrown in one, and the
house was adorned throughout
with numbers of wild honey
suckles and dogwood with crys
tal bowls of fragrant violets.
Music was rendered by Miss
Jennie Browning. Delightful
refreshments were served while
the guests were seated at the
card tables.

race for Clerk of the Superior
Court for Wheeler county.
Though defeated, I am proud of
the race I made.
In regard to the reports they
had out on ine about being in
toxicated all of the time. I wish
to say that I have not drank a
drop of liquor since last October,
and hope that 1 shall continue to
hold to the resolution of not par
taking of any more strong
drinks. I wish to state further
that I did not use any liquor in
my campaign, and did not even
have any one intimate that they
expected anything of the kind
of me.
