The Belled Buzzard
Pays Alamo a Visit
“J. B.’* son of Mr. and Mrs
L. Purvis of this place, was the
first io geta peep at the belled
buzzard that has been ‘showing
up in many places of late. It
was in Alamo last Friday, and
the tingling of the little bell that
he wore around his neck could
l>e heard as he rode the breeze,
and basked in the sunlight of
this delightful climate.
Several others were attracted
by the ringing of the little bell,
and the bird was watched with
considerable interest until it dis
appeared. This belled buzzard
has gained much notoriety, as it
has been seen on various occa
sions, and the little bell around
its neck never fails to attract
those in hearing distance-
Just how the bell was placed
around its neck, we are unaUe
to say, but it is supposed that it
was done while the bird was
small, if so, it would feel lost
without it, as it is quite a large
bird now, and flies around With
its mates as though nothing un
usual marked its career.

ANOTHER CHANCE TO VOTE BONDS
Courthouse, Jail and Roads Included-"-
Everybody that Has Best Interest
of County at Heart, Get Busy.
Again the people of Wheeler county
will have an opportunity to say, by
their ballots, where they want a court
house, jail and roads built either by
bonds, or whether they would .rather
go down into their jeans for the
“dough” and pay for them. In either
event, this money will be raised.
The time has come when every citi
zen in the county realizes the great
need of getting down to business. By
reference to the advertisment it will
be seen that the bonds call for $50,000.-
00, devided as follows; $20,000.00, for
court house, $10,000.00, for jail and
$20,000.00, for roads. Plans for the
court house have already been accept
ed by the commissioners for a530,000.-
00, building, and Alamo will pay $lO,-
000 00, which leaves only $20,000,00
for the county to pay on the court
house building.
The commissioners are very conser
vative and will exact the very best
for the money, and at their last meet
ing, signed the notice calling an elec
tion to be held on the 10th day of
June. It would fall quite heavy on
the tax payers of the county to have
their property taxed to raise a suf-

Our hat is off to the people of Mari

given him a coat of tar and feathers

ficient amount of money for the above
stated purposes, when an easier
remedy can be had. True, bonds were
voted down last v®ar, but people have
had time to reflect, and many who op
posed them before, wifi be for them
this time.
We need the public buildings and
every-one knows that we need the
roads. There is no one factor in mak
ing country life attractive or more
powerful than good roads. The public
roads are the hinges upon which the
future of country life depends. Every
farmer wants good roads. The market
can be reached with so mueh more
ease, and the time saved will be worth
all the effort spent in obtainirg them.
Let Wheeler county get up in the
। front ranks of progress, and her
people get in position to point with
pride to her good roads, court house,
jail, schools, churches and and palatial
homes. The start is only to be made
and it wont be very long before our
county will rank with any, both in
' yield and development. Think the
matter over carefully, Mr. voter,
: your future prosperity is at stake,
just like the other fellows.
At The Methodist Church
To the people of Alamo and
vicinity, greeting. Beginning
the third Sunday in May, Rev. J.
E. Summer, assisted by Rev.
John S. Sharp of Waycross, will
conduct a series of revival
services at the Methodist church
to continue through the sth Sun
day in May. Every Christian in
the community is earnestly re
quested to pray for the meeting,
and to enlist with us in a united
battle against sin in every form
and place, in no other way can
great good come to our midst.
Division is weakness unity is
strength. To the sinner we say,
God loves you and the church
wants to help you get right with
God. Come to the first service
and remain through them all.
May God bless every home and
every heart Fraternally,
J E. Summer Pastor.
